UEFA, FIFA & the FA (rules, proposals etc)

didn't see where to stick this so see if a thread is worthwhile to discuss the general administrative side of the game.

been lots of talk recently, quite sensibly, about the amount of debt in football and Platini's desire to force clubs to be sensible before they implode.

of course none of the papers carry sensible analysis of this but attached a link from a guy who summarises it all very neatly. he is a gooner but his posts are very articulate and not the normal fan drivel that populates the net.

Some time tomorrow in a nondescript, modern building overlooking Lake Geneva in Switzerland, football’s great and good, also known as UEFA’...

what I really like is how they plan to only have 'allowable' fair value income for clubs, stopping some sheik from sponsoring his own club shirts for £500m a season but to make allowances for 'good' debt for stadia or youth development facilities.

read and become the most knowledgable person at the next pub debate on the subject !

Lots of criticism about Chelsea from pundits about how much we've spent but we've put massive development into our youth development that has some real promising players in it (and won the FA youth) Cup.

We're also debt free due to the investment in the club (the value of the club increased enough for the debt to be covered by shares). Only big piece of investment left are the rumours that we'll be going after Earl's Court for a new stadium.

Anyhow, rather than UEFA moan about British clubs I'd like to see them criticise the insane investment into Real Madrid that's a mix of bank and government support. That's not 'healthy' debt.

I think unrealistic debt for equity swaps are also outlawed if conducted on a non 'fair value' basis. Abramovic swapped £500m in personal loans for equity worth far less than that.

Not sure how the rules apply retrospectively but aren't allowed going forward.

La Liga is under Platini's gaze as the leagues total debt is greater than the Prem, and income is tiny beyond the top two.

Other big issue in La Liga is clubs do their own tv deals, which results in the huge disparity between the top 2 and all the rest, they'd get really stuffed if collective bargaining came in (as its returning in Italy & has aleays been here), look at Real & Barcas tv revenue, its huge.

How Man City may not (amazingly) fail the UEFA financial fairplay directives in a few years :-
