    Scottish Football

WAS: "Bombs sent to Neil Lennon's House"

    Scottish football is stupid.

    Pointless and stupid.

All three parcel bombs went to public figures with Celtic links.

Stupid crap. This is how Scottish Football wants to present itself to the world? With all the stuff around the Old Firm derbies is it any wonder someone would take it that far?

It's just another pathetic example of people losing all sense of perspective when it comes to a game of a ball. Which is all it ultimately is, no matter how you want to dress it up with justifications of history.

This is an extreme example but a lot of people really need to grow up when it comes to this sport

I don't think it's got much to do with football?

Hooliganism didn't really have a huge amount to do with football, however football allowed it to happen and pretty much encouraged it. The Premier League and FA clamped down on it for a good part of a decade and it's now not a notable part of the English game (that's not to say it doesn't happen, just that it's now much less of an issue).

Every year at the Old Firm Derbies something happens, the managers are at each other's throat, the players are at each other's throats, the fans are at each other's throats. They make a half hearted appeal after the game to calm things down, the managers smile and shake hands for the cameras, the next year the same thing happens. The whole religion/loyalist thing is just an excuse, They're on whatever side they're on because that's what's expected of them as a fan of their clubs. It could be about what their favourite colour is and they'd still be at each other's throats. Because it's a notable political issue, lots of fans pretend it's not just them going in with the crowd but for the vast majority, it is. This atmosphere produces the psychos who do stuff like this, or at least makes them feel justified.

The social, regional and gang culture issues that hooliganism was about didn't go anywhere after the clamp down, it's just their fellow fans made it clear they didn't want any part of it and didn't want it harming their club.

That's an end product though. It's because of what he represents. It's sectarian violence getting caught up in two clubs that represent each side. I'm sure the clubs know and work on the issues but it's outside of football, it's a social issue.

Celtic are two points clear of Rangers, that's the Scottish season pretty much over then.
