    Initial D: Arcade Stage

With a new forum, I hear a call for a new Initial D thread. First off, what does everyone drive, where do they play, have you got any records that you'd care to share or any notable tales of adventure?

    I'll kick off again then:
Driver ID EDD with a white, A-tune AE86 Trueno (can't remember who to give the props to for hilariously dubbing Takumi the "housewives' favourite" - like it though) with about 155,000 points on it. Used to drive a yellow LanEvoVII with 60k but it's a Japanese card so I'll just save it for the eventuality that somewhere a v2 cab pops up.

A couple days ago I set a blinder (for my skill level) on Akina downhill of 1'07" but today it was all going wrong. Silly mistakes meant two losses to Bunta. However my Happogahara times are getting better with every race: 2'43" inbound which is just off the Trueno record of 2'40" at Goodge Street (the local, natch). I like to think that we get some talent in at Goodge St, attracted by the cheap prices, so I think I'll work on beating that for the rest of the week.

This truly is an infectious game. I don't see where I can possibly bring myself to stop - I've barely even started to battle other racers yet!

Driver Name is a straightforward 'Mark'

Drive a yellow Mazda RX-7 Type R (FD3S) with about 36000 points on it. Finally managed to beat Ry yesterday on my third attempt. I had an absolutely blazing run and aced each bend perfectly. Literally flew around all of the hairpins on the third course.

That's the only problem with my game at the mo. Inconsistency. Sometimes I can cane a course, others I hit every wall and crawl along.

Oh, and I play at Namco Station at Trafford Centre.

Having only discovered this game for the first time last-week, I'm still a newbie to all of this. But in anycase, I'm driving a Subaru Impreza and will be giving it a run-out sometime during the week after work no doubt

I'm banned from most public places so I'm pretty new too :P

        Name: SAUR
Driving a Nissan Skyline, but I might change for the RX7 - the Skyline is a bit much at the moment :P

Just starting really - gonna be down Goodge tonight! (hopefully be able to sneak into Play To Win and play Evo without being jumped by security)

          two questions mate.

          1. Whats all this initial D about then? just a racing game? what are all the points thing about?

          2. How do you get yourself banned from arcades of all places?

          Cheers

It's more that your standard racing game - they have got the vibe of the anime series down perfect and the soundtrack (while I dont like that type of music) ROXX when your racing! - it's all time trials and one on one battles against CPU opponents based on characters from the anime series. You save all your player data onto a memory card yo can get from the machine and bet/trade them with people.

            2. How do you get yourself banned from arcades of all places?
I'm black, I'm obviously only out to make trouble!

Similar, but feels a lot more rewarding.

lol Chief, it was me that dubbed the AE86 Trueno the "Housewive's Favourite"

I call myself James, my car was a Honda Civic Type R in white but as I was progressing I was finding more and more hairpins on the circuits and FF just ain't that much fun on hairpins so I've restarted with a slidey, white FR Housewives Favourite.

Obviously I've chosen stock settings (A). Anything else would be completely frowned upon by Japanese students when they come over this summer and quite frankly I have enough trouble being taken seriously by pretty Japanese girls without making matters worse due to having picked the wrong trim type.

I appear to be the only person in Bournemouth putting money in it, so I try to spend at least a tenner a week in an attempt to keep it there. They took my Planet Harriers, my SegaSonic, my Spikeout and my Virtua On away - I'm not letting it happen again. I want it to still be there for the summer student boom when I can take on the Japs at their own game. Plus the lack of interest means I can practice in almost total privacy on a Saturday/Sunday morning just after opening without worrying about other people wanting a go.

The first time Initial D grabbed my interest was in the July 2002 issue of Arcadia. Since then I have understand that this title have something special from the amount of Japanese media coverage it is getting.

Haven?t been able to play it in this arcade starving country. So my focus is now fixed on the PS2 release. And as some of you already know, - will I get the whole kit for this release, from the imported console to the GT Force steering wheel.

I?m very fond of hearing your reports guys from the British arcades. Babs, I was self a student in Hastings many year ago so I know what your talking about. I remember with a smile on my face; the student life, strong cider, the pier, arcades and beaches.

Update; Have now placed the order for Kaido Battle, I?m in need for drift action

a mate lent me his initial d first, second, third and extra stage on vcd last week.
I promptly finished the whole lot by Saturday and after my work I met up with my lot and we headed to our local arcade (Booths, Union Street, Glasgow) and I played the arcade for the first time.
the guys were excited cos they played it for the weeks before but I was apprehensive about plugging in 2 quid just to start. I beat the first guy no probs then had some trouble.
The Anime just kept going through my head so today after work again I popped down myself and had 9 plays

Does anyone have any info about the PS2 Initial D that's going to come out. I mean I hear it's not the same as the Arcade but it'll be similar

Initial D: Special Stage is a hybrid containing Arcade Stage and Arcade Stage Ver. 2 as well as a much-expanded story mode and other new gubbins (I'm assuming cars, courses and the like).

Ugh. Give me a moment to gather up my wandering tongue...That looks just a bit good. I have fansubs of 1st stage but I'm missing a coulpe of eps and I'd love to grab the other stages as well. Especially in that sweet dvd pack.

I'd have thought special stage would've just been a tweaked port of ver.2 - i thought it just built on ver.1 whilst changing some of the rules such as where you attain full tune etc. etc. I'm sceptical as to whether i'd be as effective on a home console though. When the game is in the arcades and each race costs you cash, the tension is much higher and each point seems to be worth more when given a monetary value. A home port may cheapen this and takle something away from the game. I anticipate its arrival anyway, though. The only bad thing is that fastest times will have a further second taken off them when people practise all day on their ps2s (not that that doesn't happen in the arcades anyway - I gave up waiting at Casino tonight when two guys had the rule of the cabs for ages).

Seeing as Sega Rosso were responsible for the Sega Rally series (I Think?!) it's natural to compare I-D to SR2 but it's far more technical and more rewarding too - brake throttle and steering all required together to gain total success. It's a wonderfully balanced experience.

Saur: I hear you man. The skyline's a little heavy for my liking. Plenty of kick behind it though. I expected more people to drive Truenos but everyone and their dog seems to want to drive an FD-RX7. Very quick car, but I prefer something with a little more slide to make things a bit more interesting.

Babs: I have seen a single rogue pluck for an 86 with option-c upgrades. I must admit the rediculously large rear wing is quite tempting, but an 86 just don't seem right without a 'Fujiwara Tofu Shop' sticker on it. Without that, I may as well pick something pretty like another Lancer. Haha. Apparently option-a upgrades actually make for a faster car than the others, but some reports hint that c is better. I wonder....sure as hell aren't going to spend more cash on another Trueno to find out though!
