    The Hobbit

Haven't heard anyone mention this, but I got this in Game for 20 quid and I'm *really* enjoying it.

I'm a big fan of the books and I feel that this captures the essence of the first book very well. The graphical style is very impressive and some of the backgrounds (outside troll cave!) are lovely. It also features some of the most expansive rooms I've yet seen in a game.

I reckon this one will be missed by many because of the lack of the film license, but that'd be a shame.

I'm up to the "Riddles in the Dark" section, I've died many times but save points are always well placed to keep you coming back. There's a nice mix of platforming, and, yes, the puzzling is fairly straightforward.

If I was to compare it to any other game, it's closest to Starfox Adventures without the tedium and with more character.

It's very much on the Cube in PAL... and if you're quick, you'll get it for 20 quid from Game... Bargain I say.

Oh.. and a quick mention to the in game orchestrated music.. it really is great. The music playing while you're wandering around the Shire is pure hobbity fun.. with some damn fine guitar playing as well.

If you enjoyed SFA, you'll enjoy the hobbit... it's more demanding from a platforming p.o.v and, as I said, features some enormous environments and far superior voice acting... I'm still in the goblin caves and some of those caverns are damn impressive... and other than the initial load of the level, no obvious load times and not much in the way of "windy corridors" that they often use to hide these.

      I'm impresssseeddddssseeesssss... my prreecccioussssss

Thorin sits down and starts singing about gold.

            Gandalf gives you the map.

You strike the goblin and cleave its skull.

            What a game....!

Looks completely generic from what I saw of it - Basically seemed like a shameless Zelda rip-off with some extra puzzles and lots of platforming. Didn't like the style at all - but hey, ?20 isn't all that bad

Oops.. my bad. Meant "first" book as in first in the whole Rings Saga.. of which I consider The Hobbit to be the first.

Anyhoos... I'm in Mirkwood now and it's getting quite hard.. lots of platformy jumpy jumpy bits and with my busted thumb it's proving to be quite difficult...

still enjoying it though.. Riddles in the Dark was good fun.

And those bloody stinging bulbous eye things (used to wind me up something chronic) and the barrel you had to jump in and the n, e, n, e, whatever directions to pick up the ring.

                    Quality...

after 3 GAME stores told me it didn't exist on cube, I finally found it having come home from uni, unfortunately I missed the offer by a day and so it had gone back up to?40, I heard the website is still doin it for ?20, but I think I'd rather leave it now til after xmas.
