    Louis Theroux

    Anyone else love his documentaries?

I thought last night's was brilliant (Neo Nazis), and so was the one where he visited the brothel.

Yeah I saw the Nazi one, fascinating, the mother of the two 11 year olds was insane, as well as her father who was equally insane. I say drop her in the middle of brixton and then make her mind up on racial matters...

I far preferred him in the Nazi documentary than I did in his visit to the Brothel, this time he seemed far more willing to probe and challenge rather than the perpetually aghast 'I'm British, this is all so shocking to me!' facade which he overused in the Brothel ep.

These weren't really Nazis, just racist white trash, notice how the 'leader' that Louis followed around, and who was said to be the most influential individual in that field, accomplished absolutly nothing for the duration? He didn't even have rousing speeches for the hate rally, just racial slurs and tired soundbytes, every leader needs to have a measure of charisma if they want to rally people to their side - he had absolutly none of that.

The saddest part was seeing what undeserved control such bigots are given of their children, making me think once again that there should be some kind of licence needed to procreate. Lamb and Lynx were totally isolated, and will grow up badly adjusted not just because of the racist dirge their mother is feeding them, but due to the total lack of social contact with kids their own age. They are going to have one hell of a hard time when they get older, and it made me furious to see the mother so blithely justifying programming her children as 'tools' for her own views.

I saw this and have to say I cant believe the mentality of some of these people.

The guy was a hypocrite though, I mean for who he claimed to be he would not have any contact whatsoever with people of a different race. Some people just live in their own little worlds, it was funny watching seeing how little of an impact he made in places he went yet he holds himself on this plateau.

The mother interested me slightly more, she seemed a bit deeper then Tom, her opinions were based entirely on what she had been told, it was interesting to see how she thought she was so noble for believing all this crap. Although when confronted with the argument that more people agree with Louis she fell silent. Also I felt if she was so self righteous and doesnt give a damn about what people thought of her why hide that her children are being raised as racists?

It was an interesting program, however I was a little disappointed that Louie didn't go that extra distance and really question the people he met. There were so many opportunities missed, it was quite frustrating viewing to be honest...

Maybe he didn't fancy having his ass kicked by all the deluded cross burners.

What got me was the way the mothers both contradicted themselves about bringing up their children, 'I want my kids to go out and see the world for what it is, and know what goes on....as long as they hear it from me!' Come to think of it they were all walking contradictions.

I'm not going to try to probe the whole Racist debate. It was transparent how misguided and illogical the people presented in the program were...

I will offer this, though: The Racists claimed that they loved their country and their lands and they wanted to preserve it. I can appreciate how this opinion is draw to a certain extent - Different people come along, people realise that employment isn't 100% and that the economy isn't stable, so different races seem like a nice scapegoat... But do you people think that it is possible that the nationalist propaganda fed to the public by the media and government aids the popularity of these movements.

I'm of course in no way trying to claim that the American government is to blame, and unquestionably we have racism in the UK, but are the crazy levels of patriotism also accountable for these people and thier beliefs?

Other than that I found nothing of interest in what the racists had to say as it was either pathetic, immature and possibly unfounded: [paraphrase]"I don't like the way they look, they way they smell, how they treat look after thier kids, and how they make everything messy"[/paraphrase] Or was simply illogical, and came back to: "We love this country and we want to preserve it. We want to be with people who look and live like us." - again paraphrased.

I was interested by Tom's manager, and how he refused to say that the W.A.R. Publication was either true or false in it's assumptions. And the meeting with the Racist family who had a pool table was tense, and I was scared for Louix. I felt sorry for Lamb and Linx who had to listen to this rubbish... I loved the way that the mother claimed that Louix was indoctrinated by multi-culturalist propaganda, yet continually bombarded her kids with racist propaganda by playing her contravercial music and quizzing her little ones on why Black people are bad, she completely failed to present her opinions to Louix in a fair, balanced and weell-rounded manner. She was certainly a hypocrite as she said that she in no way feels the need to hide her opinions and herself, unlike the rest of society, and by being who she is her, and her family, could be open... but as Louix played on, they led a double-life in many respects.

I, personally would have liked to have learned more about the area, and California (I believe) and why Tom believed it to be the epi-centre of the revolution... or why his opinion is completely unfounded... and the backgrounds of the members of the Skin-heads (or other racists), beyond thier family, and why they should draw these opinions. I, like others here, would have liked to have seen more open discussion, to get more information on these people's beliefs and ultimate goals... eg, carve a small state out of Mexico.

It was scary viewing... and worth a watch, I certainly enjoyed it, but would have liked a little more from it!

I hope I get to see more of Louix's productions.

I think people, like who he interviewed in the film, don't have a sense of belonging in normal society, so they create their own, partly out fear and ignorance.

It must be easy for them to let their prejudices become the main focus of their alternative way of life, and therefore make the general assumption that all black people are criminals and all Jews are corrupt or running the world together in secret.

I suppose it's just being human to want to be part of a gang/family unit and to feel that you have place in the world. Maybe thats why they do it even though it's wrong.

I am white by the way.

Louis Theroux's documetaries, if you want to call 'em that, are great. It's the way he lets ppl dig their own holes, car crash tele in a sense. And that bigotted, small minded bloody woman with the 2 kids, jesus she made me mad, I wanted to throw stuff at the tele, just totally pathetic. Was so funny when he said, basically, have you considered therapy due to the fact that ideologically yr outnumbered millions upon millions to a few and all she could do was be totally defensive and say why haven't you had therapy for yr view. Grrr...yeh whatever luv, go and stick yr head in the sand. Makes me mad! ft:

Anyone remember the one he did on the pro-wrestling circuit in the US a few years back. He went to one of the 'top' training centres for pro-wrestlers and basically said to the bloke who ran it, 'It's all a setup right?' and this geezer went mental and made Louis do so many starjumps and squatthrusts etc he was sick...very funny but at times very disturbing.

And the other when he delved into the US porn industry...classic! And another where he spent time with Paul Daniels and Debbie..I could go on. All classic!

He's had 2 series on Beeb2 before these last cpl of extended documentaries, both of which are worth watching. Great stuff.

I actually had to turn it off. It was right after that woman said something along the lines of

"I don't want either of my daughters becoming race traitors"

Race traitors?!! WTF? It is scary to think that there are people who actually think like that.

Some people are really ****ed up.

The most bizarre part for me was the mother's argument that she doesn't find people of other races attractive, and so doesn't want to be around them. Very, very dangerous ground for such a munter to go walking on, surely?

If Louis pushed people to the brink it would be a very boring show. They would kick him out and refuse to talk anymore. He lets people do their thing and he probes for little nuggets now and then. He is happy to be in a situation where he can show the viewer a window into strange peoples lifes. I agree it can be irritating when you want Louis to go the extra mile and interigate the people. He`s not an interrogator though and has no legal rights to gode people, imagine Louis using Gestapo tactics, that would be crazy.

Holy crap, it's almost a 6 year bump. Is that a record? Or just bad netiquette?

Has anyone been watching the recent Louis Theroux shows? There was one on last night where I am that I found really disturbing - Law and Disorder in Johannesburg. Man, that is one scary place. I will never, ever go there.

It was like a zombie movie only these were running zombies, with weapons. Like RE5 I guess but I only played the demo. The police seem powerless. There are what are effectively police for hire who seem almost as scary as the people they are hired to stop. Almost. But not quite. I have no idea if there was any truth to what that guy was saying about putting babies in ovens but he looked genuinely scary to me. Totally creeped me out.

And that hijacked building without power was total Silent Hill. How people live in there is just mind-boggling.

But the thing that haunted me after it was the mob rule. That the 'community' would decide someone had done something and burn them. To hear that woman totally rationalise wanting to burn a guy whose crime was that he himself said (or allegedly said, nobody seemed sure of anything) that he was going to burn a criminal. She said he should hand criminals over to the police and, because he wasn't doing that, they would burn him to death.

Scared the crap out of me to know they are all human beings.

And also made me think how some of us really have it lucky not to live like that.
