US PS2 to UK TV questions

    hi,

i am currently fiddling with my US PS2. when it came it only has a composite cable to connect to my TV. when i use this it displays black and white. so i bought myself a scart Ps2 cable. this time it works. but to my horror, the screen looks off-center to the left. i mean there is this gap on the right of the screen and the picture is aligned too much to the left. it does hinder my gaming experience. how come all import consoles have this alignment problems when played on UK TVs? if i have a US ps2, do i need to use a US scart cable as well(if there is one)? does anyone know a good brand TV that eliminates this problem? i only have a budget of ?250. a nice 20in is fine with me. i am thinking of a Sony KV21LS30 but not sure if it is good on playing import games on it (i hate that alignment problem).

    any advice is appreciated...

    thanks!

Sadly, I don't think there is anything you can do about this.
The black & white problem on composite is due to your TV not being NTSC compatible.
All RGB cables I've used shift the picture to the left. On GameCube however you can center the position of the screen. On my PAL Dreamcast the picture is even shifted with a large border down the right so it is not just import consoles - the PAL DC instruction manual even says that this is a side-effect of the standard, I think.

So sorry - but I don't think there's much you can do. You could call a service technician and have them adjust the overscan of your set, or somehow get into a service menu and do this yourself (try searching Google for your TV model and service menu as keywords).

it has an rgb centering option where u can move the picture back to the right to get rid of the border

my tv doesnt shift to one side with any import consoles its a sony flatscreen thingy (not sure of model).
I t has the rgb centering option but i think all tvs do which are rgb compatible(this wont get rid of your problem unless you get a rgb cable for your ps2 anyway).

Very few RGB compatible TVs (just about all are in the UK by law) would have that I'da thought. None of the ones I've seen do anyway, but that might just be coincidence.

i've been to that website...it says ?259. damn.....

are you really sure that your TV model is Sony KV21LS30? not the identical model which is the Sony KV21LT1? i must really be sure about this, as we are talking lot of money here and i really wanted the right product.

sorry, if i am being too demanding...

                      thanks!

Mines almost the same as that but has the speakers on the sides.......
I got mine from comet or currys or somewere for ?200.

To the thing of RGB centering i think all sonys could have it (newish ones atleast)because my last tv wich was also a sony and one of my friends who imports also has a sony and they all have centering.
There the only tvs ive tested with it(him bieng the only one who imports apart from me).

Also it works with normal composite cables in colour (ntsc 3.58 ).

I had the same problem with my US PS2 and Sony TV.

MD posted a great little tip on the old forum telling you how to access the engineer menu, therein lies an alignment option. Sorted my telly out a charm.

Clicky here and have a fiddle, but not too much cos you can bugger your telly if you're not careful:

Claranet, one of Europe’s leading managed IT services providers – acquired FreeUK, an ADSL broadband provider. hello moosedeer,

can you please tell me what sony model your television is? is it Sony KV21LS30 or a Sony KV21LT1? both are identical in apperance but the latter is less expensive. i think both have speakers on the side, not sure about this but please can you find out the exact model of your telly for me? and please confirm that you can really do an image centering in your TV. if you read through the thread, this can solve my problem...

                            thanks!

Also i can send some photos of my cube playing (which is hooked up by composite and is centered).
