    Truly great arcade ports

DoDonPachi (PSone) - Ignore the badong Saturn version, this one is a gem. The slowdown from the PCB is cured and the sound is much improved. Probably my favourite shooter, i'm trying to learn it right now. Just got to the level 4 boss on one credit (8487410) so i'm pushing for level 5. Hitting the extends feels so good.

Xmen VS SF (SS) - 4 characters on screen at once, no loading times. It's like MSH never happened.

    Vampire Saviour (Saturn)

Identical to the CPS2 version with no loading whatsoever.

The House of the Dead 2 (Dreamcast)

      Flawless conversion with extra modes.

        VF2 Saturn,

OK so not as good as the arcade version, but that thing rinsed every lost ounce of power out of the Saturn. I used to stick it in watch mode and enjoy the show.

Great example, the 4MB RAM cart is ill. Only games that push the hardware that you never thought you'd see a perfect port of. So no bull**** like Bubble Bobble on C64 or whatever.

Also no Naomi > DC, 246 > PS2 etc games. Those ports were never in doubt.

Have I missed your point, then?

SF2 on SFC isn't even remotely near perfect port status.

I was gonna say Street Fighter 2.

When my mate said he was getting a SNES and before I'd even seen one in action I said to him:-

"There's no way it'll be as good as the arcade"

It turned out to be even better than I had hoped....

... am I missing something too? In what way was it not a perfect port?

DISCLAIMER:- I was very young at the time so I didn't analyse every background detail, character animation, sound bite ect, I just remember it being a quality port at the time.

I'm going to claim Soul Calibur as well.

                          Ta.

Now you're talking. Namco should have released it in the arcades on Naomi but they've been intent on asserting themselves as the number 1 under achievers in the industry. Shame.

I would have put Soul Calibur, but I dont feel it's a port.

DC Soul Calibur is a complete remake rather than a port - certain characters have been totally reworked, the rest re-balanced.
