Mega Drive platformer I can't remember the name of..

I rented a platformer for the Mega Drive many years ago. It's side scrolling. Suppose it looked a little bit like Castlevania, but the graphics weren't that good.

You play (I think) a wizard. You can collect rings/jewels in different parts of the levels and combine them to create different attacks. You can go to the menu screen and combine, say, the fire and the lightening rings to create a fire projectile. A little like a cross between the materia system in FF7 and Gunstar Heroes.

Does that ring any bells with anybody?

I was gonna say Rings of Power but I think that's more of an RPG. Maybe it's Mystic defender?

Jewel Master is the one alright. Interesting game it is too. Must practice on an emulator a little bit and see if I can get some more rings and try all the combinations. Could never get past the 2nd or 3rd level when I rented it.
