    Super Famicoms in vending machines?

I remember reading around 2000/2001 that there were certain vending machines in Japan that contained both Super Famicom Jrs and SFC games. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this?

Yes very true, I saw one only last week, it was next to the soiled naughty knicker machine across the road from the space capsule hotel (next to the maid cafe).

My PKE meter is detecting a slight trace of sarcasm there.

I have those near me too, except these have DSs in. I'm too scpetical to have a go though.

So, anyway, can anyone confirm or deny my SFC rumours?

You are thinking of the Nintendo Power machines probably.

It works something like this: First you buy a SFC cart named 'SF Memory Cassette', which contains 32Mbit flash memory and 256kbit SRAM for 3980 yen. Then you go to a shop with a NP machine, insert the cart, and choose the title(s) you want from the machine. If your cart is already full, you will need to delete some space. After you have downloaded the games, you go to the counter and pay for the titles, and receives the manual(s) for the respective game(s) within 3 minutes.

It may not be interesting to you but we don't all know everything about gaming

I love reading about this kind of stuff and is why I frequent the forums to read of wierd and wonderful gaming oddities.

You might be right but I swear that I've heard about actual consoles being sold from vending machines.

OK, here's what you can get from vending machines in the BIG cities.

Game software (mostly nintendo hand helds or Playstation)
Game hardware (only ever saw famicom clones)
                        magazines
cards (game related as well as anything else)
hot & cold food / drinks
normal and porn DVDs / videos / magazines
                        soiled knickers (sick !)
                        new socks, boxers, ties.
                        music CDs
and a whole lot more. Where I live we only really have CDs, DVDs, food & drink.

Thanks for the comprehensive reply Yakumo, you're a star. Just for the record, I've only spen about two weeks in Japan but I was fascinated by the vending machine culture they have. One of the weirdest that I saw was a UFO catcher with real live lobsters in it. Imagine that in the UK, the RSPCA would be onto it in a second.
