Playing US imports

I'm expanding from Saturn and Dreamcast loveliness and want to delve into the US Playstation market, mainly for RPGs. If I bought a chipped PS2 would I be able to play original Playstation US games on it or will I have to purchase a chipped Playstation instead.

Most are OK on the PS2 but iirc there are a few multidisc games that won't work. You can get a chipped PS1 on ebay for a few quid.

Depends on the mod, but any newer modchip (DMS3/4, Ghost2, O2, Matrix etc) will run anything you put in there, be it a PS1 game, PS2, DVD, and get around the anti-mod protection.

But given a chipped PS1 can be found on the forum for ?30, go for that unless there's some iimport PS2 games you wanna play. Be sure to get a machine modded with a later mod that bipasses anti-mod protection.
