    Metroid Prime - BBC review

Hi to all ntsc-uk people from another edge refugee.
Just saw this Metroid Prime review over at BBC. I hope I'm posting it to the right place.
BBC, News, BBC News, news online, world, uk, international, foreign, british, online, service

Pretty horrible review, and yet another case of a "games journalist" who and slags off one of the best games of the year because he found it too hard. ft:

You always get garbage like this - I read a Panzer Dragoon Orta review a little while ago. The reviewer complained it was nothing but button bashing.

On the Tube earlier I saw a Devil May Cry 2 poster with the tag "Surpasses the original in every conceivable way!"

People on the whole, do not know what the rass they are chatting about. It's pathetic they expect gamers to take this rubbish and even more pathetic that people listen.

I very much doubt this 8===D has the skill or patience to get deep into any game let alone Prime - which imo is one of the best games in years. Clueless, butters idiots like this brer tarnish the reputation of decent games for no reason other that they dont have the intelligence to review it properly so they chat bollox to make themselves sound clever.

You - bruv, are a chump who cant play games.

The key problem is that the game falls between two stools.
Can't play Metroid Prime, can't spell & no clue.

      Shame.

That's a fairly negative review. Some of the points are mildly valid but from the brevity of this piece I doubt he played it for more than a few hours.

But you will only discover that depth if you have the tenacity to find it and I was greatly put off.
If he can't be arsed to put the time into it then that's his loss. It's an engrossing title and definitely worth buying. If you need a decent review I think our lad Treble did a good job*.

Comeon lets face it. The BBC isn't exactly gonna offer in depth gamign reviews. Its the casual gamers read and probably sadly reflects most casual gamers views on the game.

                What did he mis-spell?

As for the review, he didn't like MP - so bleedin what?
Just because you don't like the review doesn't mean it's the end of the world. He has an opinion, deal with it.

Oh yes, I definitely agree. I didn't go to the BBC to find out if Metroid Prime is any good My problem with the review is that loads of people will read and believe it and won't be getting this game because of that, which is a terrible shame.

                    Reviews like this affect sales.

What is the point of making games which are truly different like Metroid Prime if they are going to get slated in reviews (BBC reviews WILL be seen by a lot of people) and sales will suffer as a result.

I want more innovative games - I barely buy anything anymore! Peope need to be led in the right direction when it comes to gaming - Joe Public still hasnt a clue.

Does this bring up the point that people don't want to be challenged, they want to be entertained? Metroid one end, Zelda the other.

                        I hear that!

Most games now are so damn easy and shallow it's shocking - yet this is what people want.

Thank god for small Japanese devs!

Although I think the game is great, I think some of the mass-market may share his opinion. Certainly some casual friends weren't sucked in by the game when they spent some time on my copy. Sometimes the reviewers on the non-specialist media hate games we love and love games we hate. Although their positive opinions can be bought, I imagine a negative opinion of a AAA game like this may be genuinely held. I can see what he's getting at, even if I don't share his opinion.

(first post from a member of the edge diaspora BTW. Hi chaps, nice place you've got here.)

Once upon a time the BBC didn't encourage it's correspondents to 'make up the English language as they go along'...

What the fcuk does "between 2 stools" mean??

                              Between 2 'schools' perhaps.

Too few writers actually READ what they've written before airing it to the world. This talent-free-zone thinks he's written a "smart and incisive" review but I think he's missed the point by such a large margin it's scary...
