Hello everyone, and a question or two

Hi everyone, I have just found this forum & have been really impressed with it whilst lurking so have decided to join as I am getting back into a bit of retro gaming after a couple of years break.
I have a mint, boxed Super Famicom which I bought from Italian Ebay a couple of years ago (was brand new when bought) but want to get something less special for everyday use.
I use SVHS with my consoles as the 2 RGB scarts on my TV are already in use (sky & dvd) I dont think there is hardly any difference in quality between the two connections really but my questions are,
Is RGB better than SVHS? (official US lead)
Can a US snes mini output to SVHS?
Is ther any one on here who does conversions/repairs? I have an old Super Famicom which looks to have been converted somehow in the past. It has some wires loos inside & lots of extra solder spots as if someone has removed loads of wires too. Is it worth bothering with? It still has power.
Does anyone know of a mint, boxed JAP Megadrive for sale? Must be Jap NTSC, not Asian PAL.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rob.

RGB is the best output for PQ.
As for converting it, it's prolly better you either mod it yourself (google it) or just buy a 2nd hand SFC that already has the leads you want, if you want a specialist shop to mod a console for you it costs a fortune.
Go to the wanted bit in the trading thread to see if anyone has a spare jp MD (doubtful but worth a try) or try someone like VGI if you feeling a bit rich.

Hello, I believe that chaoticjelly is the new man on the bloke for conversions/cables etc. I bought an RGB cable for a megadrive 1 from him on ebay and it was ace.

Yeah RGB is quite a lot better than SVHS.

You should get one of those SCART splitters, i.e. a box where you connect it to one of your scart sockets (unplug your DVD player for example) and then it gives you about 3 - 5 more sockets to play about with.. theres some "Argos" one which ive read is legendary on this forum. Myself I use a three socket splitter and it works well, its a must for me because I buggered my scart sockets in my telly plugging in and testing so many damn scarts

I have a page here which tells you some info and if you scroll down a bit you can see RGB compared to S-Video compared to RF, which obviously varies a bit depending on the system (some consoles output a better RGB signal than others due to different encoders) but it gives you an idea at least.

I think your US SNES mini should output S-Vhs. Its possible to mod them to RGB, it looks pretty trivial tbh, I could do that.

I'd have a crack at your Super Famicom as well if you want.. PM me let me know what you need doing to it.. perhaps a couple of pictures would help too?

I dont have a boxed mint JAP Megadrive.. well I do, but its in my collection, brand new and unused but if you nose about long enough on ebay.com you will probably find a Japanese seller with one.. the Megadrive when it was released in Japan was remarkably unpopular, so its quite easy to find brand new mint and unused first production Megadrive 1's as many were left unsold in warehouses.

Why do you want a Jap Megadrive?

I can do 50/60hz, JAP/ENG switched UK Megadrive 1 or Megadrive 2's, with blue led and widened cartridge slot to fit Japanese games.. play any game, full screen full speed, for a reasonable price.. I do the RGB scart cables as well, as Yoraths said, which you NEED for the Megadrive if you want to play 60hz in colour!

I am such a retro whore

Welcome. And it's s-video, not svhs (which is a better picture quality videotape). I think

Yeah, your right, but people mix the two terms all the time.. quoted from wikipedia

"It is not unusual to see the term S-VHS incorrectly used to refer to S-Video connectors, even in printed material. This may be due to S-VHS being one of the first consumer video products equipped with the S-Video connector"

                  Im a bit tired tonight
I also blame the influence of Americanism

OT Sorry...Do you mean new ones like this (see attached piccie)? I suspect you are actually referring to the NTSC Asian models which are common as muck new. The attached is very very hard to find new and is a true 1st model Japanese MD. If however you can get loads of new ones as in the piccie..well let's do a Dyer60, I could give them away for ?100-200 no worries!

I could be very interested in your boxed MD1.
Have you got any more details & pics etc?
A PM would be great with a price too.
