    Japanese megadrive games

I've just ordered a modded megadrive. I had a megadrive as a child, and i've also owned atleast 4 or 5 in the past, but! i've never imported for this console before, which is one of the reasons i have bought again.

I'm sure the box art is better, but i'm probably not going to collect, just play, enjoy, complete once maybe twice then move games on.

I love 2-d platform games, well crafted ones anyway, and most things 2-d, would anyone help me put together a list of decent Japanese only megadrive titles, i'll start the list with one i will eventually buy, slap flight! but if they're any quirky or enjoyble 2-d platformers/left to right action, please give them a mention as i'm pretty clueless out of Pal land with this, Thank you.

    Magical Flying Hat Turbo Adventure.

OK, it got transformed and brought out in the West, but it's still a great game and looks a lot better IMO.

      When it's 2D platform I can't recommend MagicalHat'sFlyingTurboAdventure (or something like that ) enough. It's DecapAttack's much much better looking cousin: http://www.segagagadomain.com/megadrive/magical-hat.htm

              Truly the stuff of legend!

The Megadrive is packed full of amazing games.

Axis Final Zone Senki - make sure you get the one with the free postcards!
              Hellfire
              Zero Wing
              Warsong/Langrisser
              Landstalker
Jewel Master (well I like it anyway)
              Gunstar Heroes
              ESWAT
Shadow Dancer (Japanese boxart makes the Western version look like the output of a pre-school child)
Aero Blasters (again, amazing Japanese boxart)
              Alien Storm
              Wardner Special
              Dynamite Duke

              ...and loads, loads, loads more.

I cannot praise Contra The Hard Corps highly enough. JP version is quite expensive mind you (it's still cheaper than Slap Fight though :P)

I think it's safe to say most Japanese versions better there western counterparts; 'Bare Knuckle' sounds like I'm in for a night of hard-core fisticuff, fash-mashing, gypsy-kicking action where as 'Streets Of Rage' sounds like I'm the bin man on a clear up after a Saturday night at the local.
In addition to the excellent recommendations get yourself a tasty RGB cable makes everything look ssoooo much better, as if made right the MD outputs a fantastic RGB picture!
                            Enjoy.

Oh yeah guess I should add: 'Crackdown' to the list of games.
Dirt cheap to pick up great little overhead puzzle/shooter type thingy, slightly better than the coin-op in my opinion, and the Japanese boxart is fantastic (unlike the UK where the cover depicts the two main characters as seeming geriatrics on a 60 and overs day out to the canal).

Pulseman. Brilliant platformer from Game Freak. You can see some influence of it in Drill Dozer, with the wires/tunnels and such.

Another tally for Magical Hat, too.
