    Revenge of Shinobi

Was this a UK launch title?

I've no idea, as I had an asian machine and had bought the game when it first came out (1989). I'm pretty sure it was, but if anyone can remember buying it, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Wasn't it Space Harrier 2 and Super Thunderblade?
    Kept you waiting, huh?

I think it was. By the time the UK launch came around the Japanese version had been out for ages, so I can't see why it wouldn't have been.

Nope don't think it was, but I do have a later release without the extra boss characters.

The copyright on Shinobi's box is 1990, where as Herzog Zewi's is 1989, hope that helps.

Didn't own a MD till 2005, so I haven't a clue on the launch games, but the copyright dates are a good hint as to when they were released.

Edit, ha ha ha, just checked the back of the manuals of both games and the copyright dates our the other way around Shinobi's is 1989 and Herzog Zewi's is 1990.

Maybe they are not such a good guide.

Revenge of Shinobi WAS a PAL release. I had the cartridge to it and may still have, even!

Wasn't it 'The Super Shinobi' in Japan?

Yeah it was the Super Shinobi in Japan, but was it an actual UK launch title?

Yeah it was called Super Shinobi in Japan.

That's cos Herzog Zwei was released in Japan in 1989. It couldn't be referring to the UK release as the machine wasn't out in the UK in '89.

I'm pretty sure it was a launch title. I remember my mum buying my Mega Drive from Dixons of all places. She asked the guy what was a good game to which he recommended Revenge of Shinobi. At least Dixons had one guy there with brains This was in October 1989.

She bought a Megadrive in Dixons in 1989? How, when the machine didn't arrive in the UK until the following Christmas?

                              I think it was

                              IIRC, the launch games were

                              Altered Beast (obv)
                              Alex Kidd
                              Last Battle
                              Mystic Defender
                              Super Thunderblade
                              Space Harrier 2
                              Thunder Force 2
                              Revenge of Shinobi
Ghouls N Ghosts (I stand to be corrected on this one)
                              Super Hang-On
                              Golden Axe
                              World Cup Italia 90

                              And maybe Alisia Dragoon?

The likes of Super Monaco, Populous, John Madden, Forgotten Worlds, Hellfire, Ghostbusters and Strider weren't far behind
