Recommend me some 80s Electronica/Synth tunes

I'm trying to find 80s tunes with an Electronica/Synth vibe. I'd like the tunes to have vocals, but.. just music is fine.

I've found quite a few mainstream tunes - that were common hits, but.. I know it's a genre that produced a lot of work. I'm just finding it difficult to locate them.

I like the genre because it's usually upbeat - and sounds like the sort of stuff you'd find in videogames of the late 80s, early 90s.

The music can be from any country. Cheers!

Whoa, this is such a wide genre. Most of my vinyl of from this area so I'll list a few mainstream and not so well known.
Early Depeche Mode, Yazoo, Soft Cell, Japan, Early Simple Minds, Associates, Heaven 17, Human League, China Crisis, Magazine, New Order, Early Duran, Howard Jones, Cure, TalkTalk, Flock of Seagulls...

A bit earlier than you want but check this out, from 1977. The seedy 7" of this was kept right at the back of the record collection in our house and it used to fascinate me as a kid. Quite videogamey and the drummer is spellbinding.

Thanks for the list. I have gone through most of those recently - and found some good tunes. I've sort of covered a lot of the British side of things, now.. I want to discover the American stuff, which isn't so easy, because.. although the style was popular in America in the 80s, rock still ruled.

I was hoping to discover some magic - and that tune is brilliant. I'm not an expert on the genre, but.. that tune seems way ahead of its time for 1977. Also, the video looks very 80s; if not early 90-ish in some ways. I will be ripping that tune to mp3.

It's also my favourite genre at the moment. I'm still a complete noob to it really, so don't know all the terminology etc.. I just know I like the synth style - with an 80s flavour. I've even been listening to some 80s breakdance tunes - that use synth drums etc.. and they are really upbeat and fun.

Try the soundtrack to the 80s animated Transformers movie - not exclusively electronica since there's a few 80s rock tunes on the album too, but it's Vince Dicola doing what he does best.

I'll try to find it. 80s cartoons usually have enjoyable tunes.

                    Good list there
You can add OMD, jean michael jarre, gary numan, bowie, and kraftwerk too.

For something a little different try searching "klein and mbo" or "n.o.i.a", same group just different name and basically the blueprint for all house music, its sorta italo disco , all from early eighties

Oh almost forget dont forget two forefathers of electro musci tto - vangelis and georgio moroder.

The chase by moroder still blows me away everytime i listen to it.

I'm adopting that style of drumming for rock band and guitar hero. It's immense!

Glad to see Jean Michel Jarre get a mention:

I've just listened to some Moroder tunes. ... It's the sort of music I really like.

Also, Moroder did some of the Scarface tunes, which led me to a tune I had forgotten about.

Push It To The Limit (Scarface) - Paul Engemann

This is the sort of thing I'm aftet the most: American style synth music with vocals. I know a lot of 80s movies had that kind of music, but. it seems difficult trying to locate that style.
