Considering the majority of the country is no longer religious in any meaningful way (and the ones who are aren't Christian anyway) why should various things have to stand still due to religious traditions. This morning for instance I went for a walk into town (after 11 I might add, been caught out with that before) and apart from a couple of coffee shops everything was closed. I was well pissed off.
Do these things have any place in the modern UK?
Of course it's a double-edged sword, I don't advocate getting rid of the bank holidays or christmas breaks!
