If you have Netflix, there's a series called Dark Tourist where the host travels to global locations not usually visited by tourists and one episode includes a visit to Hashima Island.

In completely unrelated news, Dom "Trigger Happy" Joly approached Netflix with an idea to make his book "The Dark Tourist" into a television series and they turned him down. This show must be a completely different idea...

Hashima Island is also used on the live action Attack on Titan.

It looks fascinating, but it might be easier to just use the Google Street View tour of it!

It's an Island off the coast of Nagasaki and used as a location in Skyfall, I've put something in the trip thread.

It's nicknamed Gunkanjima (Battleship Island) as it looks like one from a distance.

Grew up with Moore, prefer Connery (just), really liked Dalton, pity he only managed 2 outings, thought Brosnan was a decent Bond, but his films aren't the greatest by any means and his last outing was just awful, as for Craig, Casino Royale was excellent, the rest of his films despite having some really good action sequences are just dire.

          my faves are.
1 - For Your Eyes Only (1981) (sentimental, may not be the best)
2 - The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)
          3 - Goldfinger (1964)
          4 - Dr. No (1962)
          5 - From Russia with Love (1963)
          6 - Thunderball (1965)
          7 - You Only Live Twice (1967)
          8 - Diamonds Are Forever (1971)
          9 - Live and Let Die (1973)
10- The Man with the Golden Gun (1974)
          11-The Living Daylights (1987)
          12 -Licence to Kill (1989)
          13- Octopussy (1983)
          14- A View to a Kill (1985)
          15- Casino Royale (2006)
          16- Moonraker (1979)
          17- GoldenEye (1995)

all equally bad, and could easily go the rest of my life without seeing again.
          Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)
The World Is Not Enough (1999)
          Die Another Day (2002)
          Quantum of Solace (2008)
          Skyfall (2012)
          Spectre (2015)

??Never Say Never Again (1983) just a poor remake of thunderball
On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) always forget Lazenby, didnt like his solo outing.

              Ace!

I was chatting to a guy at work and I said why I disliked OHMSS and he said that's why he loves it, so Bond is strangely subjective.

I really like Moonraker because I saw it as a kid and have a soft spot for it, but I can see how some see it as silly.

Actually, one thing I do like about OHMSS is that final scene you posted "We have all the time in the world."
That's brilliantly handled and emotional in a film full of silliness and fourth-wall breaking.

I like it in "The Spy Who Loved Me" where Anya Amasova recites facts of his life, including his many relationships. She comments that he had been "...married only once. Wife was..." at which point Bond's eyes glaze over for a moment, and he sharply tells her that she's made her point; Anya comments upon Bond's unexpected sensitivity, and he confirms he is sensitive "about certain things."
It's rare that Bond displays any chink in his armour.

Yeah, I remember buying the Moonraker issue of Look-In magazine (with a Jaws poster iirc) ... and getting the Corgi Space Shuttle

I used to get Look-In, but I don't remember that issue!
I'm pretty sure I had a Corgi shuttle, but definitely had the Lotus in submarine mode.
The 007 sticker came off the bonnet when I played with it in the bath.

There's a big model of it where you can put change it from car to sub that I keep drooling over.

OT but the best issue of Look-In had Knight Rider in 3D.

Bet you lost one (or all) of the red missiles too, I know I did

                      Corgi Lotus was ace.

My clearest memory of Look-In was a Showaddywaddy poster on the back page ... I was astonished by the sheer amount of members in the 'band'.

                        Sorry. Back on topic ...

I loved that bit, even the bit in another film where he visits her grave even if it's followed by an awfully eye rolling action sequence. It's one of the few times there's any bleed over between films and actors in the role and it resonates so strongly because it's so rarely done and in particular is in reference to that scene. It's not hard to see why it wasn't a popular plot twist on release but it's quite defining about on-screen Bond and the films that follow, easier to swallow his less desirable traits as it frames him as a broken man from the one time he let his guard down.

Casino Royale kind of did the same with Vesper but they've over milked it since and will no doubt try again in Bond 25 with the woman he left with but I can't even tell you her name she was so forgettable. A three minute scene in OHSS may end up being more defining than five films framing a similar plot point

I was a pauper and only had the little Corgi Lotus.

Stuart had one in my class, but his parents were divorced and he had a lot of cool toys.

I think the one I want is the Autoart one, but there's a nice one by Ertl and an RC one by Toy State.

If I'm honest, I think the Esprit from For Your Eyes Only is better looking but only explodes, rather than turns into a sub.

                            (Links ahoy!)

I could have bought one myself when one went on auction in the UK.
I would have bought one on sale in America, but I was outbid by Elon Musk, who plans to adapt it so it really can go on land and underwater.

Did anyone here ever visit the Cars of the Stars museum in Keswick?
It was the most amazing place I've ever been. Ever.
It had every cool car you can think of.
Knight Rider, Street Hawk, Batman, Starsky & Hutch, The A-Team, Back to the Future, Mad Max and a whole load of Bond cars, including the Lotus.
Sadly, it was closed in 2011 and the majority of the cars were bought for the Miami Auto Museum.

That collection, by Michael Dezer, was put up for auction in 2011.(Daily Mail link, sorry) I'm not sure if it sold, because it looks like it is being relocated to Florida. after closing the one in Miami and Las Vegas.

Watched Tomorrow Never Dies last night, as it was something like £2 from Amazon and I really wanted to see how it has held up.

I actually like it more now than I did back then. Some parts of it are dated (there are many references to contemporary things that don't really fly now, so those jokes and allusions don't quite land) but I remember seeing it after Goldeneye and disliking the villain. These days, after seeing more Bond movies, I've realised that I was probably spoiled, villain-wise, with seeing Goldeneye first (as Alec Trevelyan is among Bond's better villains) and now I don't judge it quite so harshly. Also Michelle Yeoh, who is always awesome.

It's the Brosnan film I've seen the least, so I was curious.

I'm still surprised some people rate Goldeneye so little, though. I'm somewhat biased because that was the first Bond I saw in the cinema, and when people talk about "their Bond", Brosnan is very much mine, as he was Bond during my formative years (following the drought after Dalton's departure) but I rate Goldeneye highly as a kind of "Bond megamix". it just has everything a Bond movie should have:

                              • Awesome action intro with some cool stunts
                              • Amazing theme and titles
                              • Several great car chases, one involving the DB9, and of course the tank chase
                              • Bond plays Baccarat and drinks his vodka-martini
                              • Xenia and Natalya are interesting characters
                              • It involves the Russians
                              • Great villain
                              • M scene is awesome as Judy Dench just nailed it right from the off
                              • Great Q gadgets and Q scene
                              • It's about reclaiming/using a super-weapon

I mean honestly, the only thing which I feel was ill-advised was the musical score, which I think is generally quite bad apart from during the intro and the tank chase (which almost sound like they're by someone else to the rest of the movie).

Tomorrow Never Dies is relevant today in the world of fake news. ITV have been showing the Brosnan films recently. Although by the time we get to Die Another Day things have gotten a bit too silly again.
