EUR NES/SNES Power Supply Plug Size?.

The only info I could find was someone on another message board saying euro nes/snes plug size is 2.1mm x 5.5mm. This is wrong as this is what the mega drive power supply uses and a mega drive power supply will not fit a NES/SNES.

If you mean the Mega Drive 2, then yes that is correct. The original Mark 1 MD has the same type of power connector as the SNES, but I'm not sure what size it is. Maybe check the mmmonkey website.

Also make sure you don't actually use a MD PSU on a SNES as the latter requires AC volts not DC.

The PAL/Euro NES/SNES power supply plug is actually:-

Plug Outer Diameter 5.5mm, Inner Diameter 2.5mm, Barrel Length 9.5mm

I measured it myself some time ago with a digital calipur and pictures can be found near the bottom of this thread:-

The PAL NES, PAL SNES and US NES all use the same plug size and have the same AC 9V power requirement, but the JPN Famicom and JPN Super Famicom use a plug with 2.1mm inner diameter and require DC 10V, the same as the Mega Drive 1.

The 2.1mm and 2.5mm are the two most common barrel connector sizes:-

(Although note that Wikipedia states the 2.1mm/2.5mm size as being the 'pin diameter' which from measuring multiple barrel connectors I can say is incorrect, as it is actually the size of the plugs inner diameter, not the diameter of the pin in the socket)

The US SNES is an odd one, because it requires DC 10V like the JPN Famicom/JPN Super Famicom, but it also uses a completely different shaped plug as you can see at the bottom of this page:-

Nintendo obviously decided to use different plug/pin sizes to try and prevent people using DC power supplies on a console requiring AC and visa versa. However although it gives a bit of a loose connection it is still possible to plug a PAL AC power supply into a console requiring DC current, which can do bad things to the console as discussed in the first thread above.

Thats probably more info than you needed to know Please just keep in mind the power requirements of the console you want to power, especially the AC/DC difference, and the plug polarity if using DC.

As OGF says, the UK MD1 has the same plug as the NES as I've used that for the US NES I had!

Please dont think I am trying to argue or anything (and I could be wrong) but I am quite sure that there will be a 0.4mm diameter plug/socket difference, although a well worn Mega Drive 1 plug may just about fit.

I know the PAL NES and PAL SNES both use 2.5mm plugs as I have measured them. I dont actually own a US NES so I am unable to confirm the size for sure, but I do know that a PAL NES/SNES power supply can be used on a US NES.

Even if the US NES does use a 2.1mm plug/socket it still has totally different power requirements to a Mega Drive, and whilst a Mega Drive 1 power supply plug may have fitted, it likely wont be doing the US NES much good as it needs AC and the Mega Drive 1 power supply outputs DC (Please see the thread I linked to earlier to see the sort of problems you could expect)

I can post pics of the US NES power rating label and an original US NES power supply label if it would help?

Anyway, I think the OP was really only interested in the PAL NES/SNES plug sizes, so the US NES plug size probably does not matter as much Although I think I still might make a thread about it over at the nfgforums sometime...
