Martin is back where he started, Discount Baby Centre!
That is where he first started trading, in the corner of the Winton shop but now he works full time in Parkstone. Nice store too.

great article and very nostalgic - brings back the memories of other places like CA games in Glasgow and the CEX of yesteryear

VGC was one of the greatest places around. Not just the stock, the brilliant times and stories that goes with it.

We never had a really big specialist shop like that where I grew up in Scotland, but a few of the little indy computer shops would have little dedicated import sections. Magical times. Bought from VGC a few times, definitely one of the big names from when you used to longingly go through all the shop ads in the old classic games mags. Ah, the memories........

Yeah, I got my modded systems there as well. And cartridge adapters. The old owner was a decent guy, even replaced an N64 adapter that didn't work. Before the internet I'd say this was the number 1 import store I ordered from.

Ironically I finally ended up visiting not long before it closed.

Ahh, old indie games stores. Funny how they weave themselves into your recollections of a place.

There was one called the [REMOVED] in my old home town, which sold imports. The first owner looked like Right Said Fred, while the next owner always seemed high as a kite. Visited a few years back and found it had closed, replaced by a clothing store. Somehow it felt like the whole town had changed because of that.

This brings back memories, good or bad, cant decide due to high volumes of cash spent over the years back in the day, now we have it so gooooooooood

Always found it ridiculous that I lived in Poole until I was 18 and never once visited. Used to phone them quite a bit to see if they had certain things in stock / check if I had enough to buy certain bits and pieces, yet *not once* did I actually make it out there. The majority of my mate's Saturn collection came from there, but most of the time I ended up going to Software Box instead; now there's a shop I have fond memories of.

In the Arndale centre? First time I saw Mario 64 in the flesh (so to speak) was in that shop - they had a Jpn N64 running & everyone just stood & stared...

I spent most of my early teens in Software box, right until the death in fact.

Chandra came running into my work shouted that had got F-Zero X in stock and legged it back out! My manager let me go early to pick it up as he knew I was so excited!
