They have put plenty on blu ray - surprised you can't get the films.

Ahnialation: Finished this last night. I liked it. Interesting premise, decent acting and plenty of mystery.

Annihilation... Yeah good stuff, 8/10 for me.

Me and the missus are also watching Love which is pretty decent. Enough that I'll watch it and not be bored...

The Outsider. Jared Letto is a prison inmate in 1954 Osaka Japan who gets involved with the Yakuza.

Set in an interesting time for Japan post war, on the rebuild and looking to the future I found this a really intriguing watch as I don’t know much about this time in Japan’s history.

With decent acting throughout, a cool setting, along with some lovely moody night photography I was pretty pleased with the film by the end.

            8/10 fishbowls.

Polished off season 3 the other day. Really liked it after stumbling upon it in 2016. I guess that's probably the end of it now? Kinda anticlimactic but a fine enough resolution.

I was browsing this thread to find something, and this hilarious gif clinched it for me.

                  I was not disappointed.

Annihilation is one of the best films I've ever seen. 100% my kind of film. Still thinking about it over a day later - tempted for a rewatch.

I went and read a bunch of reviews after watching it, and was surprised by a lot of critics. Even the positive ones cushioned their praise with stuff like "a lot of people will be annoyed by it" or stuff like "it's trippy, so a lot of people will think it's bad". Almost all of them mentioned having trouble deciphering it.

Really? It can be taken at purely face value. Or you can read more into it.

Reminds me heavily of Roadside Picnic, the Russian novel which STALKER was based on. It's based on a book of the same name, but I would guess that author must have read Roadside Picnic, or Alex Garland (writer / director) is a fan of Roadside Picnic / STALKER. It's basically kinda like a movie adaptation of RP / STALKER, but with babes in America rather than Soviet mercs in Chernobyl. Which is perhaps why I found it so easy to slip into, since the themes, even the rough storyline and various cerebral concepts, have already been covered in-depth by said book/FPS.

There's also a lot of rich layers to dissect after the fact. But... I won't spoil it here.

Yeah. Man. It's been a very long time since I was able to sit through an entire film without checking emails on my phone, or getting bored halfway through and wanting to do something else. I genuinely had to watch the entire thing without stopping.

I'm really pleased people are watching it and getting something from it.

For me, it was the journey, rather than the destination, but it's still great that head-hurting sci-fi is being made.

I can't imagine something like 2001 getting the green light these days.
"Wait, so the monkey use tools when the slab of granite appears, then a bone tuns into a spaceship and a giant space baby appears? Hmmm, can it star Adam Sandler?"

I imagine a lot of critics are finding it difficult to review Netflix films without their kick backs, i mean review copies with an added brown paper envelope.

Edit. Just as I write that I came across this. Netflix has been banned from the Cannes film festival, booooooooooooooooo.

I set out to watch something meaningful, but ended up watching Game Over, Man.

It's a Neflix Original comedy about a group of three loser guys who are room maids in a Las Vegas hotel.
As they're escorted from site for hassling a rich guy for funding for one of their get-rich-quick schemes, they see the hotel taken over by terrorists and the manager being murdered.

I say "murdered", but he has his dick cut off and waved in his face.

I think that should set the tone for this heart-warming drama.

It's actually really good fun and is quite self-aware with loads of references to Die Hard. The three leads are likeable enough and the story romps along at a fair pace, dispatching terrorist henchmen in increasingly gory (but funny) ways through their own stupidity, rather than the guys' heroism.

I particularly laughed at the Shaggy scene and the ear fight.

I just wanted something light on in the background whilst I did some LEGO.

I also watched the last Big Mouth, which I've enjoyed and a couple of episodes of Rick & Morty, which I've really warmed to.
There are some pretty smart ideas in there and I like the way the characters interact with each other. I think the Dad is becoming my fave.
