So the appeals court in Scotland has ruled prorogation unlawful.

I don't see how this changes the current situation though. The English courts disagree and parliament is already shutdown.

The Supreme Court of the United Kingdom serves as the highest court of appeal for civil cases under Scots law (and I'm fairly certain this was a civil case in Scotland) so the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom will have the final say. Perhaps they'll take it to the European courts afterwards

However, calling for the recall of Parliament is nothing but political posturing and grandstanding at this point - it isn't going to happen.

Farage offers a dark cloaked arm around Johnson in the election to guide him through Brexit via a non-aggression pact as long as Johnson agrees to commit to No Deal and surrenders his mortal soul

As a winning tactic, it's fairly sound, a vote split between Brexit and Tory parties will stop a majority - eliminate that prospect and the Tories stand a much better chance of a good majority.

Given their is still a reasonable anti-Brexit Party/Remain/anti-No Deal amount of Tories in the party would a coalition with them not cause a rapid re-collapse?

          Comment

There isn't a reasonable anti-Brexit amount of Tories in the Tory party. The majority think a No Deal Brexit is the best course of action and the vast majority support Brexit with or without a deal, the remain faction is tiny (about 10-14% depending on what polling you believe) and that faction isn't going to vote for the Labour party.

In a recent poll, 46% of Tory party members said they'd be happy with Farage as their party leader, and 61% were happy for the destruction of their own party or the UK, so long as Brexit happens.

If you're talking about MPs, then yes, there are more for remain, but see above, the party members are more than happy to see them deselected in order to achieve Brexit.

The divisions for and against Brexit have hardened, not softened over time - polling from back in June showed just how polarised this had become and revocation and no deal are the most popular choices generally: https://www.politics.co.uk/comment-a...bare-the-death

It's a small wonder that the Tories campaigned on behalf in the first referendum then

              Comment

MPs really should be careful what they wish for - currently lots of them saying if the UK Supreme Court rules against prorogation (seems unlikely and the main reason for this is because it sets a really bad precedence over political constitutional issues, changing the balance of power) then he should resign as PM, subsequently martyring him in the eyes of Brexiteers and triggering a GE. It'll be a own goal.

Constitutions (written or otherwise) can be used as a sword and shield - the consequences of changing them need very very careful consideration, not altered on the hoof because a situation isn't to your liking, because those changes have lasting impacts that a similar situation down the line could result in unforseen and unwanted outcomes.

I do think that a written and ratified constitution is something we should have in the UK though, but that really is quite a Herculean task and could take decades to finalise.

That would be the shortest ever time as Prime Minister after George Canning, whose sole term lasted 119 days from 12 April 1827 until his death on 8 August 1827.

Yeah, in a GE it may be more useful to have him still in charge if they can successfully paint him as a liar, failure and criminal not to mention him lying to the Queen

Corbyn rejects Watsons call to outright back Remain as expected.

Senior Tories insult and outright reject Farage's offer

I don't get what Watson was going for there. I'd love a referendum but it just isn't going to happen before a general election.

A lot of the time I feel like Watson knows that most of the Labour lot are in his corner and he's playing to them in hopes of snatching the Labour top spot after Corbyn's gone.

Amber Rudd is to call for Proportional Representation to be reconsidered as the voting system

Operation Yellowhammer's documentation has been released and:

-The leaked copy from last month is very similar to the official version, minor changes though have raised concerns that the government has edited the papers before release and if proven it will lead to a charge of them being in contempt of parliament

-No Deal in the coming months will severely damage the retail industry at its worst timed moment

-Low income groups will be disproportionately worse off

-Medical supplies will be heavily impacted

-Crime data sharing would be affected

-The official copy also controversially redacts a section that described how the impact on fuel prices would likely close two refineries, cost 2000 jobs, result in strike action and disrupt fuel availability in multiple regions. Another potential contempt of parliament claim.

-The government has also changed the heading for the public one, it was called the Base Scenario but for its public release they've changed it to say Worst Scenario.

-The government failed to release any of the internal communications that the commons vote defeat mandated they had to.

Johnson has today continued to confirm a 31 October exit despite it now being a criminal offence.

They can’t just release the internal comms. It would violate gdpr and a bunch of other stuff

Civil Service union has pushed back on the PM asking him not to push them into a situation where their members are effectively asked to break the law by helping him defy parliamentary orders.

A committee of MP's has warned of the environment changes to abandoning traditional plastic packaging too quickly. Thankfully there's some grain of common sense in political circles on the subject rather than continuing to knee-jerk abandon it and cause much worse problems like we're currently doing.

The officially released version of Operation Yellowhammer is so redacted, it's been condensed to the much friendlier sound of a Yorkshireman getting a sandwich:

Latest Kantar polling shows a 4 point dip for Conservatives and Labour, with those gains going to LibDems, Brexit and UKIP. Still shows a +14 lead for Tories though, but Kantar is always the outlier compared to other pollsters.
