Blue Storm is definitely better than the original!

      Blue Storm isn’t a third-party title though. It’s first-party.

NST (Nintendo Software Technology) developed it - they are directly managed by NoA.

I bought a cube, went round a mate’s house, played halo (on a massive projector screen), took cube back to Game next day and bought an Xbox. This wasn’t at launch though because I had Zelda and Metroid with the cube so must have been later? Anyway I got the ltd edition green Xbox with 2 small pads so that might tell you how long into the lifespan I jumped in.

Halo, crimson skies, full spectrum warrior, GRIT, wolfy and steel battalion. What a machine! These days I’m more likely to play cube titles however.

Along with Mario IV, for me the best launch game ever. So much fun and so playable, even the music was class. It was also one of the best Party games going. Monkey Golf and Monkey Pool were incrabile games in their own right

Just love the game and the music score

Simple for me to answer , xbox had Halo and Live, which brought a whole new meaning to gaming in my household never again would i play alone until 3am in the morning , so many laughs and gaming 'buddies' that i met and then carried through the 360 years upto present day with the One.

There's so many underrated classics on the system to , i was picking up games for 50p and a quid years ago from bootsales and bargain bins and before i knew it i had half the full UK set so in the end went for it and completed the whole Pal set early last year.

So yes , xbox for me.

Super Monkey Ball is fantastic; that being said, it did come out on the Xbox too (there was a release which, effectively, was both SMB 1 and 2 as one game).

SMB's one of those rare games which sprang forth perfectly formed. It struck the anvil just right in one go... Then every subsequent strike just distorted it and threw it out. See also Crazy Taxi.

As much as I'm really fond of the GameCube, I have even greater memories of enjoying what the Xbox offered during its life cycle.

I'll never forget how amazing RalliSport and Halo were back in 2002. RalliSport's graphics were absolutely stunning. Halo's open world action was simply breathtaking. I loved how the best Xbox games not only looked stunning but also felt really solid. I always made sure to buy the Xbox version of multi-format titles.

Another brilliant part of Xbox gaming was Xbox Live. I remember getting the 'starter pack' with a headset and Moto GP. The service was rock solid from day one, so it was a joy racing against people from around the world. Then after that, I spent a few years playing the excellent PGR2, which is easily my favourite racing game from that era. RalliSport 2 was also a joy to play online. Near the end of the machine's life you had the magnificent OutRun 2006, which was a pleasure to play online. It's just a shame that not many people bought Sega's masterpiece.

I have to mention that titles like Super Monkey Ball, Smash Bros Melee, Rogue Squadron II, and F-Zero GX were brilliant GameCube games. But the machine never had loads of games that really grabbed me. The lack of online support in games like F-Zero GX and Mario Kart Double Dash was very disappointing.

I'll always look back on the GameCube as a really nice looking machine that had some truly great games. But the Xbox was a powerhouse machine with a broad range of top quality titles -- and playing them online was something new and exciting. The Xbox is my favourite machine from that era.

I absolutely love Wave Race 64. Blue Storm felt dull and quite sterile in comparison. So as much as Blue Storm has the benefits of a higher resolution and some fancy effects, it doesn't appeal to me as much as the N64 version. I wouldn't say Blue Storm is a bad game, but its design is quite charmless. I do play now and then though, as it's a decent game in its own right.

That's a 2003 model Xbox. I have one in my collection -- such a nice looking version to own. It's also probably the best variant, as you have the video chip that works fine with all 480p games and a decent DVD drive.

Clearly my comment about the original Wave Race flew over heads! Wave Race 64 isn’t the original game. The original Wave Race is a Game Boy title from 1992.

As for the whole 64 vs. Blue Storm debate, you’re pretty much preaching to the choir. See my post from earlier in the thread.

For me it's the GameCube, broadly always was despite how slow Nintendo was to get games out the door - that's largely what ended up with me buying a second Gamecube from Lik-Sang and in turn brought me fully over to NTSC-UK. The system had fun games unique to that system whereas the Xbox was mostly resting on the strength of having better versions of third party games. That was fine at the time but looking back the Xbox wasn't particularly strong at exclusives.

On launch, for me, the GC easily won the battle. Whilst no single title defined the launch in the way Mario 64 had, the cross section of the launch line up was great. Xbox less so, PGR was great but not quite that refreshing after MSR (PGR2 was the real step forward) and Halo always felt overrated. Being a PC style FPS successfully on console wasn't enough, the game was always basically 4 decent levels followed by a poor one then repeating them in reverse order for the most part. It was fun but underwhelming at the same time. JSRF was the star on Xbox for me, adored it (and Wreckless which was ropey but just nice eye porn at the time).

There's not much reason to revisit Xbox as much as I have a fondness for the system. Gamecube is a different story where even disappointments like Blue Storm still contain some appeal and replayability to this day (though more likely to revisit numerous other games instead)

It's like a trick question in a quiz: Is Blue Storm better than the original game?

Never really got to try the original Xbox apart from playing some metal slug on one via some emulation. As a console it never really appealed to me as it’s design is ugly as sin and those first gen duke controllers were horrible I have huge hands but even those black & white buttons were too far out of reach. None of the library appealed as it’s just not the kind of stuff I go for, while I do like some western games it just didn’t have the appeal. Would easily go with the cube, the trinity of chibi robo, giftpia and homeland make that console special to me there is a solid library of cube games just a shame gamers never gave it a chance. Saying that though the drought of games at the Japanese launch was painful luigis mansion was good but not a proper Mario affair. Monkey ball kept me occupied too but there wasn’t a whole pile of games on release still Luigi was enough for me to trade in my Japanese ps2 to get one.
