    My prediction. Massive fail.
If people know they will get it for free in a year, they won't go to the cinema. Instead of taking the kids and spending £40 on tickets and popcorn, they will stay at home and watch something recently released on Disney+

The amount of content is absolutely insane. It is one hell of a deal.

AMC Theaters, the largest movie theater chain in the United States, is joining the streaming wars with the announcement of ‘AMC Theaters on Demand’ – a new VOD streaming service. This will NOT be an SVOD service (ala Netflix, Hulu, etc.) rather a more regular VOD service which will let customers rent or buy movies […]

AMC are launching their own streaming service tomorrow with 2,000 films.

HBO Max has announced two high profile projects set to be a part of the streaming service when it launches. First up, the company has scored back the rights to Aaron Sorkin’s iconic Warner Brothers produced political drama “The West Wing” from Netflix where it currently airs and will continue to do so until HBO […]

Netflix is to also lose The West Wing which will be moving over to HBO Max when that service launches

The AMC service sounds fine as a rental thing, but I can’t imagine why anyone would want to build a library of purchased films on such an unproven service.

Is anyone here purchasing digital films? It feels like an inevitability that Blu-Ray will be defunct in the reasonably near future. Already major-ish releases like Booksmart aren’t coming out on it.

Look at all these films that haven't made it to Disney+!

And just like that, Netflix is another $2 billion in debt: https://www.cnbc.com/2019/10/21/netf...l-content.html

Still seems nuts to me that they are basically all competing to be the winner at being in debt here.

Is this in the US specifically? I was hankering for some West Wing lately and my only digital option was to pay for it by the season through Amazon.

edit: also, does anyone know where I can (legally) watch the new Watchmen series in the UK?

Creepshow Shudder’s “Creepshow” TV series is setting new records for the service as 54% of all members of the direct-to-consumer platform have viewed an episode of the anthology series since its launch September 26th. Additionally, the first episode had more minutes streamed in its opening weekend than any title in Shudder’s history. The first week […]

CBS is very happy with its freshman line-up of series it would seem. First up, the network has renewed “Evil,” its new drama from “The Good Wife” creators Michelle and Robert King, for a second season. The first season is thirteen episodes and was designed that way so won’t be getting any additional episodes and […]

Only a few days after announcing its new arrangement with Studio Ghibli, HBO Max has closed another high profile animation deal. The upcoming streaming service has ordered four one-hour “Adventure Time” specials from Cartoon Network Studios, the first two of which will debut exclusively on HBO Max in 2020. Titled “Adventure Time: Distant Lands,” the […]

Go on any of the boards of an article on this site about the Disney+ streaming service and you’ll inevitably find someone suggesting Netflix’s demise is a fait accompli. Nothing could be further from the truth says Netflix CCO Ted Sarandos who is bracing for the coming ‘streaming wars’ which officially kick into high gear […]

As you'd expect the head of Netflix is bullish about the service now about to face huge competition. Interesting that he completely doesn't refer to the mountain of debt the service is already racking up.

This is entirely the wrong thread for this news but I don't think we have a more relevant one and it does touch on some stuff here: https://www.vulture.com/2019/10/disn...its-vault.html

Basically Disney are now burying old Fox movies and refusing to let cinemas show them. Movies like The Fly, Fight Club and The Omen. This is kind of the darker side of things that I know a few of us brought up a while back. Yeah, isn't it nice that X-Men can be brought into the MCU but what we're really seeing is a huge consolidation of our pop culture and media with far too much of it under the control of one huge corporation that, as it happens, has a history of being very controlling.

Several streaming services currently allow you to download content to your device, but when the same content leaves the service – your downloads either go with them, or eventually expire. That won’t happen with the upcoming Disney+ streaming service as Disney chief Bob Iger has revealed at Vanity Fair’s New Establishment Summit this week (via […]

Disney have confirmed that if you download content from the Disney+ service and then Disney later removes that content from the service, the downloaded copy you have will continue to work as long as you have an active subscription rather than remove itself also.

AT&T and WarnerMedia have begun their media event on the Warner Bros. studio lot in Burbank today revealing new details about the streaming service HBO Max. HBOMax will launch in May 2020

WarnerMedia unveiled its HBO Max service line-up, service and goals today in a two-hour often dry and sometimes too rushed presentation that encompassed a range of announcements. Costing $14.99 per month and launching May 2020 (with an ad-supported iteration in 2021), the new shows made for the service will be dubbed MAX Originals and they’ve […]

The new service will cost $14.99 per month and play home to a Green Lantern series along with a revival of Gossip Girl, Doom Patrol: Season 02 and a comedy series called DC Superhero High

HBO recently informed the cast and crew of the $10 million pilot for a “Game of Thrones” prequel series, which was shot several months ago, that it is not being picked up. The now scrapped potential series was set to take place thousands of years prior to the events of the original. Naomi Watts, Josh […]

Mere hours after it was revealed that the already shot pilot for a “Game of Thrones” spin-off had been scrapped, HBO used the WarnerMedia conference line-up to confirm it has ordered its other spin-off in the works to series. “House of the Dragon” will be set three hundred years before the events of the main […]

In response to that they have handed out a straight to series order for an alternative prequel spin-off titled House of the Dragon which charts the rise and fall of the House of Targaryen. For me, sounds even less enticing than the rewarmed left overs the previous spin-off aimed to be.
