Paramount Pictures used its CinemaCon presentation this evening to either announce or confirm numerous films they have in store. They officially announced that two new “Star Trek” films are on the way, as is a new “G.I. Joe” and “Micronauts” film, two animated films called “Monsters on the Hill” and “Luck,” and a new live-action […]

Paramount has given a breakdown of the new films signature Cruise-Stunt:

"Explained in great detail via animatics and rough takes, the sequence took a year to figure out. The action sees Cruise’s Ethan Hunt and CIA agent August Walker (Henry Cavill) skydive from a high 35,000 feet altitude at sunset, jumping into a lightning storm above Paris. Mid-jump, they are struck by lightning and Hunt must catch Walker, who is now unconscious, and resuscitate him mid-air.

Cruise reportedly did 106 jumps out of a plane in order to get three usable takes which will be merged together to look like one. The lightning will be added digitally, but otherwise the whole sequence was done for real.

As the sequence takes place at sunset, they only had a three-minute window each day to shoot the scene. In fact, to film the scene, the camera operator needed to wear the camera on top of his head, and jump out of the plane backwards whilst staying about three feet from Cruise the entire time even as they reached speeds of up to 200 miles per hour.

To rehearse the sequence, the crew built the largest wind tunnel in the world along with a custom oxygen helmet that was tested by the Royal Air Force. The sequence was shot in the United Arab Emirates as Cruise says: “we wouldn’t have been allowed to do this anywhere else.”"

Y'know, I was just about to post that trailer, but I'm not going to watch it as I think it could be great and the less you know about the action scenes, the better.

Watch the new trailer for 'Mission: impossible 6' trailer, which offers a brand new look at one of the most exciting films of 2018 as Henry Cavill joins Tom Cruise in the action franchise.

The film is receiving rave reviews but...

‘I think a woman should be wooed and chased,’ says actor. ‘It’s difficult to do that if there are certain rules in place’

Cavill seems to have set discussion off in a way Paramount won't be pleased by.

He's issued an apology of sorts since that kicked off though it reads more like 'I'll be mindful that the news may pick up on that in future'

I'm still trying to get a media blackout on this because the less you know, the better, but Den of Geek love it:
Mission: Impossible - Fallout review - the best action-thriller of the year so far
"Ethan Hunt returns for yet more spy antics in Mission: Impossible - Fallout. The best one since the first? Quite possibly..."

Saw this today, in short it's another very strong effort for the franchise. I have a nagging feeling in my gut that on rewatch it will sit below Ghost and Rogue in my esteem, it's technically an improvement in a lot of areas but I'm not sure it's as effortlessly likeable so once you are familiar with the plot etc it may be a bit more work to watch than those two lighter entries.

I thought it was incredible! So many memorable set pieces. Henry Cavill was great!

I'm getting the impression his role in this film is a lengthy audition for Bond (I watched another video on YouTube recently where he was dropping hints so I'm curious if he's lined up to suceed Craig).

I'm glad to here its another solid entry. The MI films have been doing what I want the Bond films to capture (and they did that quite capably with Casino Royale and to an extent with Skyfall).

Given he's directed the debuts of Brosnan and Craig in the Bond franchise, could we have Martin Campbell back for the debut of the next actor in the role please? (whether its Cavill or not). That guy knows how to make a decent Bond film.

The only thing I wonder with the MI films is there will come a time where even Tom Cruise will admit he's too old and either step into a role akin to Alec Baldwin's character or leave the franchise. If that happens, who could/can suceed him? (I think the actor Dylan O'Brien could give it a decent try).

When Cruise is done... I'm of the view the franchise should end. I'd be completely fine with resting it then rebooting it but Cruise is the the core of this incarnation of the franchise and the studio would never let anyone else do the crazy stuff he insists on doing so I think any non-Cruise extension would feel like a watered down stretch. Better to restart it with a fresh cast, ideally properly ensemble focused etc

Just got back from the cinema and I bloody loved it!

The story is ridiculous and the amount of tension by the end is almost farcical, but, yikes, what a ride!

As Zaki says, it's crammed full of action, as you'd expect, but I actually thought it was really interestingly shot.
There were quite a few scenes that used the location to create symmetry.
There were some amazing drone shots too that really captured the action in interesting ways.

There were some really pretty shots too like at the Eiffel Tower.

Sound was also nice with a couple of scenes with the ambient sound removed and just music playing.

The cast were all great and you need a decent bad guy to make a believable good guy and I think Director, Christopher McQuarrie's decision to focus on what makes Hunt tick, rather than just building a story around set pieces, really paid off.

Special shout out to Liang Yang, who came across as a total badass in the bathroom fight.

Not sure how they'll top this, but I said that after Rogue Nation!

‘Mission’ Accomplished: ‘Fallout’ $61M+ Opening Reps Record For Tom Cruise Franchise

"Mission: Impossible – Fallout is opening to a franchise record of $61.5M (the same as we spotted yesterday), beating the previous series high from Mission: Impossible II ($57.8M) and 2015’s Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation ($55.5M), which we wrote three years ago repped a moment when star Tom Cruise resuscitated the franchise. He’s taken it even higher here, with Fallout also breaking global records for M:I with $153.5M, beating Ghost Protocol’s $131.5M. Fallout also stands as Cruise’s second best opening at the B.O. after War of the Worlds’ 3-day of $64.8M."
