Yuushima Tenjin is a favourite of mine for the ume blossoms, halfway between Ueno and Akihabara.
There are plenty of places to go if you want to go off the beaten track. I forget the name of the one near Shinochanomizu station.
Ghost the father-in-law's house is in Ushiku, so not far away. I have some friends in Moriya too. A friend of mine from the old NOVA days lives in Tsukuba too, unless he's moved. I think the father-in-law is planning to buy a new house near Tsukubagakuenmae station or somewhere nearby in a few years ready for when we move back.

And that's that done.

Sat at airport gate waiting to board.

Came out with ?800. Returning with a little over ?300. I struggled to spend it all... Or, more that I struggled to justify the spend.

Overall it was an okay trip. Feeling ill for 50% of it didn't help.

I'm just excited to get home now and hug my wife and son.

How strange. Been back in the UK for two days. Missing Japan already.

Two questions for the residents over there: how's the weather and temperature like now?
Is it hard to reach Tokorozawa and the aviation museum from Shinjuku? From the maps there's one tube line between the two.

Looks like Koku-koen is the closest station

The weather in Tokyo is lovely right now. It'll hit 24'C today with a low of 14'C. It'll get a bit cooler over the next week, though, dropping to 20'C.

kryss is right that Kokukoen is the nearest station. If you don't want to change trains then you can start from Seibu Shinjuku station which has a direct train and takes 45 minutes. That'll be the single tube line you saw on the map. If you want to save ten minutes, you can get the fast train to Tokorozawa and then change to the slow train for a few minutes.

Seibu Shinjuku is just a bit north of the regular Shinjuku station.

20°C? Even 14...well above what I have now. Lovely.
