I much preferred Doctor Strange on second viewing.

Been enjoying some Stan and Ollie classics on Talking Pictures. The Music Box, Tit for Tat and Saps at Sea. Hilarious stuff - the best movie comedy duo, bar none.

Really enjoyed watching this film again, with a little Irish Whisky

I saw Black Panther, but the film was ruined by some scrotes talking and messing about throughout.
People asked them to shut up, but the cinema did nothing about it.

I liked the casino sequence that looked like it was one shot (but it's no Kingsmen!).

We saw Blank Panther too, but it was ruined by not being in focus. I went out 3 times to ask them to sort it, but they said each time it was perfectly in focus. They said it was probably the film that was not in focus (waaaaat?). plonkers. I couldn't leave because my kids were with me and they didn't know what I was on about until the end credits (you have to sit and wait for the 2 extra ending bits) and they said that they could now see that all the writing was all blurry.

Anyway, the film was ok. Apart from the first end credit sequence where they are going on about how it's time for the world to model themselves on Wakanda society - a Plutocratic society where people fight each other, sometimes to the death, to figure out who amongst the chosen bloodlines should be King. Doesn't seem like a good model to me. And the United Nations or whoever they are all clapping and stuff because they are just greedy and want to get hold of the Wakanda future tech.

It's probably most notable because it's a hugely successful film (I mean to all audiences), that isn't totally rubbish, where the majority of the cast are black. Very cool.

She was a bit ridiculous in the movie.

Phantom Thread. Largely mesmeric, one of the most incredible fairy tale scores that nearly accompanies the whole film, most bizarre but superb. Would view again.

Watched coco this evening, absolutely loved it the imagery was so beautiful & the colour used was mesmerizing. I knew a little about the day of the dead festival but this film gives you a full educational lesson by the end, one of pixars better films i have seen recently.

                      Cinema RAAAGE!
I read these cinema experiences and I think we got off lightly, Chaz!
We asked you for your best and worst experiences in British cinemas. Er, you might need to sit down to read some of these...

That's really funny. I never saw it like that, but it's a pretty decent point!
Are the UN going to implement this fatal duel to the death for future elections?

The thing I took away from the spoilers was the line:

"The wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers."
I was half expecting T'Challa to look at the camera and raise an eyebrow.
                      Then trump.

It doesn't feel forced, though. It was really well handled.
Also, the use of women was great and there were almost as many strong women as men in this.

                      Nice summary here:

However, I was constantly expecting Black Panther to

enquire about Shuri's baguette whilst she was showing him all the new weapons in her lab and her to snatch it from him saying "That's my lunch!"

just watched the live action full metal alchemist from Netflix, its alright

It kinda follows the story of the original anime for the most part, for example it starts of in Reole and the priest that's been conjuring up miracles but it doesn't add the meat and bones to the story, Ed arrives there and does Battle and that's what happens throughout the movie with Sho Tuckers chimera's and Laboratory 5 (no barry the chopper), even the homunculus aren't all there, only 3 are in the movie (lust, gluttony and envy), so you never find out why wars are taking place in specific regions or even see the fuhrer or his son

I guess that's the pay off for a 2 hour movie that versus a 20+hr anime series, but there still are jokes and jibes about who the fullmetal alchemist is and his size.

about 5/10, shame really, the movie is more about Roy Mustang than the fullmetal alchemist being honest

                        the good
                        Its fullmetal alchemist
The special effects are pretty decent
                        Winry is gorgeous
                        Lust isn't gorgeous enough
                        Gluttony is actually quite pathetic
Characters played by the actors are spot on so it seems they did their homework especially Maes Hughes

                        the bad
not enough context, no state alchemy academy for Ed, no Trica Elric as a homunculus, no wrath, pride, greed and you don't even hear about Alphonse/Ed's father (Guggenheim from memory)
Winry is in it far too much
You don't get to see the homunculus ultimate form when I was kinda really looking forward to seeing it
No major Armstrong who is one of my favourite characters and loads of other really important characters were missing
no fight between Roy Mustang and Edward Elric

there is a scene at the end of the credits where you see the defeated envy's form but its not his ultimate form just his defeated form

I've been reading The Sheep Pig at bedtime with my son.
He didn't like it all that much, especially the bit when Babe is accused of murder and faces the death penalty.
So, the prospect of watching the film version didn't thrill him.

He didn't like the film much either, but I think he'd resigned himself to dislike it.
I think he was happy he made it to the sheepdog trials finale, rather than leaving it incomplete.

It's interesting watching it back with adult eyes, because you can instantly see when it's Jim Henson's Workshop puppets or if the sheep are tethered together, but one side-effect of clever lighting to hide animatronics is that the film has a heavily stylised look.

In many scenes, the use of shadow makes it feel like a Film Noir detective film where they use Chiaroscuro Lighting on the femme fatale, who has the shadows of the Venetian blinds hiding parts of her face to symbolise she's going to jail:

                          Interesting bonus fact:
This was produced and co-written by George Miller, who went on to direct the sequel.

That's the writer/director of the Mad Max series...

The Take with Idris Elba is on tomorrow on C4.

Never seen it, but the trailer looked interesting.
