Wow. Just wow. I really have no words for that.

Surprised to see a main-party MP having a go at this. The purpose of "the upper house" in politics is to serve as a mediating presence that is less volatile than the lower house. The job of the Lords, in this case, is to scrutinise. It would be remiss of them to do anything else.

It's like criticising the queen for wearing a crown. It's just part and parcel of their role. If you want to criticise that role, go ahead, but that's not a reflection on the people who are already fulfilling it.

Elections fail to turn the tide against the Tories offering May another lifeline in staving off a leadership challenge

This thread title should edited to add "...EU will leave behind the weakest part of it..."

A lot of the stuff MP's seem to vote against the government on when it comes to leaving the EU seems like nothing more than peeing in the wind to annoy, such as voting against the deadline as though that will do anything to change it. However, they managed a key blow against both the Tories and Labour yesterday by winning a vote that will mean there will now be a vote over whether the UK remains in the single market as part of the EEA.

At this point I'm a getting a little muddled by how this is all unfolding. In the coming months the Tories are going to agree a deal with the EU and then vote on whether to take it or not. Voting it down (as I expect them to no matter what the deal is) will then lead to No Deal. They can vote for stuff like staying in the EEA or moving the deadline all they want, at that point it's too late to renegotiate and it isn't really up to us, we can't just say to the EU 'We'll do this then'. If it were that easy we'd have a deal already, it's too focused on single aims and not an overall agreement covering every facet which is what the EU wants agreed.

I may well be wrong with this but as much as the Tories having sole control over the Brexit negotiations may be to many, surely it is what it is and we either like the end result or don't? On the face of it a lot of recent voting feels like MP's who aren't involved just trying to meddle for the sake of meddling rather than us getting anywhere constructive. Like they're trying to vote Brexit away but in reality they'll cause their worse case scenario, No Deal, because we don't have as much say on the final outcome as they think we do.

I have to admit to getting some kind of perverse enjoyment from the slew of articles we've had about terrible things that the EU will cut the UK off from as if a) it's not the fault of the UK and b) not exactly what people voted for.

We're reaching critical mass now for anti-Brexit sources when the link attached shows how far the discussion against the Leave camp has disappeared up its own backside so much that this is where we're at rather than anything constructive be done

David Davis threatening to resign from the cabinet (again) over Brexit: https://dailybusinessgroup.co.uk/201...-border-talks/

This is about the fifth time he's done this, expecting to keep all the benefits and privileges of being a Cabinet minister once he's left

Not something to start a new thread for and it just about fits in with the whole leaving the EU thing: https://twitter.com/Wetherspoon__UK/...89230823903232

And The Sun ran a leader with it.
