QualityChimp : yeah played it last year when I took redundancy. Of course, all of my posts in the Sleeping Dogs thread were lost in the great purge of 2018. Didn't 100% it but did do a lot of the lock boxes and fights etc (which I'd normally skip) and I did all the DLC except the NYE zombie one - which I felt broke the immersion.

Ah, that's interesting. I like it when a DLC uses the engine but for something bonkers like Undead Nightmare or the New Vegas packs (especially the casino heist one).

Moved to Breath of the Wild yesterday evening as I'd still got the 4th divine beast, which I bested before bed. Today I'll be gathering some weapons and cooking some food before taking Calamity Ganon out. There is also a Xenoblade Chronicles 2 collaboration quest, so I'll have to do that too.
I'm half tempted to re-buy BotW for Switch but don't want to lose another 170 hours. Truly an amazing experience.

Ive picked up some games for the OG xbox recently. One of which is Morrowind, so plan to give that some time over the next 2 weeks. I've also just bought God Of War. They're obviously very different styles of game but I wonder which will give the better playing experience

Can never go wrong with an OG Xbox and amazing games you can usually get for a pound.

Still IS a great console. Still chunky and impressive, it was badass.

I put God of War in the PS4 to install and whilst I was waiting, I fired up the One to try Sea of Thieves, but I kept getting a 0x87DD0006 error, so I gave up when I ran out of time to properly start something, and watched Rick and Morty.

This is usually how my gaming goes these days. Even Mario Odyssey updated the other day. Grr.

So I searched for ways to fix it and did a couple of things, then the page redirected to one saying "congratulations! You are lucky visitor number 4739, click here to claim your prize!" and I lost the willpower to proceed.

I've had visitors all weekend (the games room is also the guest room, but it would also be weird to wander off and play games when you have guests), so I just wanted to play something!

I'm tempted to use the break between games to watch some stuff instead, but I don't want to waste that Games Pass sub.

PS4 YEAHHH BOIII
• Last Guardian (JP) - wife was translating some stuff for me as it’s a bit difficult to follow because of the made-up language but it’s gorgeous to behold in the flesh. Torico himself is mesmerizing to watch.
• FIFA 17 (JP) - 100% English support with optional Japanese commentary. Not as crazy as the Winning Eleven commentary from years ago but maybe Winning Eleven has calmed down, too? Cracking game. Wanted to start The Journey from the beginning instead of diving into FIFA 18. Also, it was only a fiver compared with 18’s £20.
• Sonic Mania (JP) - lovely stuff.
• Action Henk (UK) - wanted this for a few years. It’s £3 right now! Perfect one-more-go gameplay with instant restart whenever you want.
• Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst (US) - $5! Fired this up just before bed and it showed us what PS4 can do. So Horizon will blow our minds!
• Resogun (UK) - 60fps goodness

Bought some more that I'll be playing over the coming days:

Horizon Zero Dawn (UK) - didn’t have the quick-start option like Mirror's Edge so I’ll have to wait until I get home tonight to play it
Overcooked (UK) - saw this on Go 8-Bit and it looked like a right laugh.
Human: Fall Flat (UK) - it was a toss-up between this and Gang Beasts but this was half the price(fiver) and it'll hopefully offer decent single-player fun, too.
Tetris Ultimate - four quid. Why not? Also, I sold my PS3 Puyo Puyo Tetris to fund Last Guardian.

Gaming renaissance happening right now.

Hooray, how exciting! (Thanks for reposting).

Action Henk looks like fun!
It reminds me of Joe Danger, which I love.

That's not in the sale, but fits your instant restart game request.

So, what you can do is add it to your wishlist, then when you pop onto the store, if there's a new sale on, check the wishlist for a price drop.

I have a few in there like A Way Out. Maybe the two of you would enjoy that as it's split-screen.

It is bad ass. Was always one of my favourite consoles. A big plus is the cheapness of the games

I fired up Sea of Thieves last night and didn't have a brilliant time with it, to be honest.
I know we moan that there's a lot of handholding in modern games, but this was the opposite and I had no idea what I was doing most of the time.

Is there a tutorial I missed or something?!

It told me I was on a quest on the starting island. Ran around a bit getting lost then it told me I'd completed a quest. I think it was just the other guy in the level with me.
I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing and I couldn't see a ship to sail on.
In the ocean was a smoke flare. I used the telescope to see and it was being held by a mermaid or siren or something and my first instinct was to avoid it, but with nothing else to do, I swam up to it and it said "Press X to join ship" so I did and I teleported to a boat.
The other guy was steering. Got to an island and he ran off, got something and came back then set off again before I even realised what was happening.

We then found another island, which was where the quest objective was - kill somebody.
Landed, and wondered how to get weapons. I sussed out how to swap weapons on the boat's armoury, but not draw them. Looked at the button config, it's "Y".

Ran back to the island and got killed by skeletons. I'm then on a ghost boat. For ages. Why am I here, why can't I steer it? What happens now? Eventually a door opened and I teleported back to the level.

By now, the sun had set and the hard-to-spot skeletons were even harder to see. Found the boss and he was surrounded by skeletons that didn't die after unloading a pistol into them. I died again. Ghost boat.

This went round in a loop for a while, dying at the hand of skeletons or copious snakes. Going back to the ship and reloading if I didn't die because you only get 5 shots per weapon and it doesn't say there are ammo crates dotted around the island. Wondered where the other guy was. He'd left, but the game didn't tell me I was alone.

Another guy joined and killed the invulnerable skeletons and "got the skull". I didn't know if I was supposed to support him or what, but even more skeletons spawned. Usually behind you, so they see you but you don't see them and they get a hit in before you even get to the boss. He also left without the game telling me. I only found out he was offline when I couldn't find an in-game message option and tried to DM him on Live.

Then another boss spawned. I have no idea if I got the quest goal or not. I gave up, bored of dying from unseen, tough, respawning enemies and frustrated at not really knowing what was going on.

I think if someone is there to show you the ropes, you'll be fine, but no mics or in-game hints leads to a tough learning curve.
Games Pass is a great idea, but also makes games more disposable. I doubt there are many players left.
Probably a blessing because even the loading screens suggest scuttling the boats of griefers and the ghost boat's only interactive item is a message asking if it's other players that keep killing you. People are dicks.

On the plus side, it's very pretty. That sunset is gorgeous, even nicer than Monster Hunter: World. The sea is amazing. Best in-game water I've seen. I like the speech wheel and the puns that go with what you're holding, but maybe the primary options should be useful ones like "Where are you?", "what's the objective?" and "What the hell is going on? I am so lost!". Or a manual input option like EDF 2025/4.1.

I really want to like this game. I love Rare, the game concept, the light-hearted tone and puns and my friend works there, but I doubt I'll be on this for long. Gutted.

I'd love it if there's a post on Reddit from the island guy saying he got lumped together with some goof who didn't know what he was doing

Ah yeah, I wanted to get Joe Danger on PS3 but forgot about it. Thanks for the tip about the wish list!

We tried the Lego Jurassic World demo last night and it was fantastic. Just ordered the game off Amazon and it'll arrive tomorrow ready for co-op goodness.

I forgot my wife is the type who checks all the nooks/crannies/chests/whatever but the dynamic split-screen meant she could do that while I could get on with the important work like jumping on things.

That's the thing, I want to be wrong! I wish I'd somehow missed a tutorial rather than being thrown in at the deep end!

My son and I also love the Lego series (my fave is Marvel 1). He is like you, running around punching stuff, whereas I'm methodically smashing everything on screen because every stud counts towards those red bricks!

It's not the tutorial that's missing, it's the game itself that's absent
