    BVM Power

Hi all, a question regarding the BVM.

If the BVM is left on standby, so it has power, are the tubes still in use?
Is it still draining power? Is this very bad for the BVM?

Up untill now, I have been throwing the switch on the surge block, to power everything on and off.
I would rather not do this, as I have more than just the BVM on the power block, and just keep the BVM in standby when not using it.

Any light one could shed on this, would be very welcome.

    Cheers.

    Tubes? It isn't an amplifier.

The capacitors will hold a residual charge for a while but that's what they're designed to do. Or rather, a side effect of the functionality.

These things are built well enough for 24/7 usage. Playing some video games on it from time to time isn't going to be detrimental. Just shove it on standby.

In fact you could even argue that fully allowing the caps to discharge after each use is causing more wear than leaving the unit on standby.

tl;dr Standby is fine and your CRT is going to die at some point, likely after you do.

Cheers speedy, I was more worried about it racking up a huge electrical bill if left on standby.
So im good to keep in in standby?

Yep. Standby shouldn't consume any more than 10W (I'd imagine). So basically nothing.
