Critics Club II: 12 - Gene Hackman

"Some people can read War and Peace and come away thinking its a simple adventure story. Others read the ingredients on a chewing gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the poll"

    Gene Hackman

The retired but still cracking along Gene Hackman gets his turn in the spotlight. Vote for the movie you feel is their best whilst also discussing their other work, your reasons for voting and thoughts on what is their weakest.

Some will have very long lists so some trimming will be required to focus on the key entries but broadly the main selection will be available each time.

Argh. Crimson Tide, The French Connection, Unforgiven or The Quick and the Dead for me.
The non-chronological list is hurting my head though!

So many superb movies here but I went for The Royal Tenenbaums. He was perfect in that movie.

Got to be Unforgiven for me. Masterpiece film and a powerhouse performance as Little Bill. "The Duck I sais"

Interesting fact: Gene Hackman is 6'2"

I tend to confuse him in Unforgiven and TQatD.

He’s in my top 3 best actors; so much good stuff on that list - contains at leat about 10 exceptional movies, but his cold turkey from heroin addiction in the FC2 is outstanding.

Given the dead tie the vote currently is I'm going to leave this one running for another two days before launching the next thread

I've gone with the Quick and the Dead because I love the movie anyway, but I like how damn arrogant he is, ridiculing Lance Henriksen's trickshooter and everyone who crosses him, including his own son.
He won't even forfeit to avoid having a quick draw contest with his only son.

I would say The Conversation and his Lex Luth is Iconic to me.

But apparently a total self-important knob in real life.

Actor Gene Hackman was involved in a minor traffic accident at a busy intersection that escalated into a fight between the 71-year-old and two occupants of the car he allegedly bumped.

Badass lol. I'm gonna make sure I'm like that if I ever hit 71.
