    PS1 games

So as I mentioned in the imports forum I’ve set up my PS3 Super Slim again to use as a PS1. I’ve decided to stick with PS1 games only and I’ve bought and downloaded all the games that I want. The «problem» is that I «only» have 12 games:

    Alundra
    Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
    Gunner’s Heaven
    Harmful Park
    Loopop Cube: Lup * Salad
    Metal Gear Solid
    Panzer Bandit
    Resident Evil 2
    Silhouette Mirage
    The Adventures of Little Ralph
    The Firemen 2
    Zanac X Zanac

    Here’s the thing -

    * I’m trying to avoid JRPGs as I’ve already played through most of the Squaresoft ones. Grandia is fun but it looks absolutely terrible.

    * I’m trying to avoid 3D games, though I might go for it if it’s worth it, like I think Resident Evil 2 and MGS are.

    * I’m not into Einhander or Don/DoDonPachi and my shmup needs are satisfied with Harmful Park and Zanac.

    * Not into racing and sports games

    * Trying to avoid ports of older games like Rockman/Metal Slug/Sunsoft compilations.

    * Has to be available on either the US or the JP PS Store.

So, with all that in mind, any suggestions?

A quick glance at the US PSN Classics section and I'd recommend the following. One or two games are 3D but they hold up imo.

    MegaMan Legends
    MegaMan Legends 2
    The Misadventures of Tron Bonne
    Tomba!
    Tomba! 2
    Vib Ribbon
    Klonoa
Parasite Eve (and maybe the sequel, I haven't played that yet though)
    Pocket Fighter
    Theme Hospital
    Dino Crisis
    Oddworld: Abe's Exodus
    Oddworld Abe's Oddyssey
Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain (I've never played this but a lot of people love it)
    Castlevania Chronicles
    Wipeout
    Crash Bandicoot 1, 2 & 3
    Ridge Racer Type 4

      Thanks a lot!

      MML, Tron Bonne - maybe!
Tomba - couldn’t get into it
Vib Ribbon - added to list
Klonoa - have the Wii remake
Parasite Eve (1) - added to list
Pocket Fighter - not into fighters
Theme Hospital - not for me
Dino Crisis - might get DC2 if anything
      Oddworlds - maybe!
Legacy of Kain - might get Soul Reaver
Wipeout/RR4 - not into racing games
Crash Bandicoot - not for me, skipped out on N Sane Trilogy as well

I REALLY wish the Lunar games were on PSN

You have very specific tastes haha.

It might be easier to just hack the PS3 and add PS1 games to it yourself tbh, the western PSN library is pretty small all things considered. JP PSN might be different but I've never dabbled with that when it comes to the PS1 personally.

Lunar on PSN would be awesome for sure

Aye, I’ve looked into it but it’s not worth it for just one game. I think I’ll just emulate Silver Star Story Complete

If nothing else make sure you definitely get Parasite Eve 1. It's an incredible game with fantastic artwork and great atmosphere. Combat is fun and the writing is miles ahead of the competition. It's worth every penny.

It looks very much like my nice new Vita is going to essentially be a portable PSone... how does the glorious Soukyugurentai compare to the Saturn version?

This is a very interesting thread. Thanks Nico.

I like playing 2D and abstract-styled games on the PS1. Gunners Heaven is such a great game. Harmful Park is a gem all fans of cute 'em ups need to play.

I’d have kept my Vita for that as well if you could easily change users like on PS3. I want enough games from both regions so it would just be a major chore each time I wanted to change, and screw buying two of those memory cards. Soukyugurentai isn’t on PSN so you’d need a specific firmware on your Vita

Probably has CFW, access to everything the PlayStation has to offer.
