Just got my two lefthand side wisdom teeth removed. The surgery went well, now waiting for the anesthesia to subdue so I can drink without risking to spill water all over the place. Hopefully there won't be much pain after that :P

Invest in some straws, stock up on pain killers, maybe start on (warm) salt water mouth rinses after tomorrow's evening meal to keep your mouth clean (gently) and don't play with the sockets/ stitches!!!

My sister had an impacted wisdom tooth she had been living of antibiotics for the past 3-4 years keeping herself from being operated on whilst she was abroad. She had her tooth taken out a week ago in 9 pieces and looked like she had been punched in the face from the swelling.
She never went into details in what was up with her tooth but I suspect they had to dig deep and had to break it up as it was very close to the Trigeminal nerve in her jaw.

If you can just leave it alone the best you can, try not to rinse today. Secondary infection/ dry sockets are f-ing horrible. I had an Upper left wisdom tooth out for free as a leaving gift from my first practice and I ate macaroni cheese that night as I wanted something super soft that wasn't soup!

The dentist gave me painkillers and a "special" rinse, I'll go back in two days to check on how things are going. They had to cut in two one of the teeth because it was growing horizontally and creating pressure on the others, but between the two it was just an hour under the knife.

Anesthesia is wearing of or almost completely gone, I feel like a "push" in the lower jaw but that's it. Maybe I'll take a painkiller before going to bed, but less pills I take, the better.

Hope you get back to normal soon, I'd agree with the painkillers, not a fan personally I take as few as possible.

I had one wisdom out at the dentist at sixteen and came out no bother as the roots hadn't developed but ten years ago had an issue similar to yours in that one of mine was growing at an angle. I got referred by the dentist to the NHS at hospital level and they decided to take out the remaining three in one go via a general anaesthetic.
NHS weren't that great and not the best of experiences, plus the codeine coupled with the soft diet after the op give me constipation of epic proportions.

I need to take all four of them out. All of them are developed (I was kinda lucky that I've never felt any pain) and one on the upper jaw is already fully out, but since the one below has to be taken out, it'll strike the jaw, so it's better to pull it out too. Today had the first two, then in January the rest.

Not worked with sedation or GA yet but I have done some surgicals with regular dentists and a few of the MOS specialists every so often (minor oral surgery). I worked with one a couple of weeks ago and some of these impacted teeth he popped out like pea's in a pod, it was fascinating. If I didn't regularly nurse with such a good dentist who I work well with, I would be looking into being an MOS nurse as I LOVE being nosy and helping with that sort of thing!

It's quite common to cut up teeth in pieces, especially if the roots are splayed or hooked. My favorite teeth to take out are premolars kids/ adults commonly get taken out before they get braces. The best are the ones that are clean and perfect, they are rather cute when cleaned up and are the few teeth we often let people take home (not allowed to give diseased teeth). It also helps that they are near the front, so no gagging patient/ dental staff digging deep to get the cursed thing out.

As much as I know and witness teeth being taken out on a weekly basis, I still don't feel any better about having any out myself!
You sound like you have a good dentist there briareos_kerensky, the fact they are getting you back in a couple of days later, I'm guessing to give you time to heal and enough time to help stop an infection/ dry socket if signs appear so all clear for Christmas.

I love my dentist. I reckon I could turn up with a bullet wound and he'd just fix me right up, no questions asked. He just gets on with things and seems to be a really low-fuss kind of guy. Not sure what actual dentists would make of him because he just likes to patch things wherever possible, rather than going for high-cost procedures, but I love him for it.

The only really tough procedure I had with him was one wisdom tooth removal where the painkiller just didn't seem to work on me (weirdly this has happened since but it's always at the same part of my mouth - anesthetic works a dream everywhere else). He got the tooth half out and it was clear that I was feeling everything so he wanted to put it back in so it could be done under general. But we had got so far with it that I just wanted it overwith at that point so we just went for it. Very uncomfortable and painful but we got there and it was worth it. It was a rotten tooth and I felt immediate relief once it was gone.

It irks me when people are going to the dentist and you ask what time the appointment is and they say the correct time, rather than the universally accepted joke time of going.

You sound like the Tooth Fairy from Rise of the Guardians, "oh look! there's a little bit of gum attached still!"

I had a scale n polish about three, four weeks back, most excruciating pain I've had since I had my front four upper crown stumps pulled out after waiting 90 mins in the waiting room after my anaesthetis, that's gonna be like four years back in March and I still feel the wince.

I'm surprised those teeth are still there. Literally that scale n pol felt like someone was doing a Khashoggi on me.

That and the spelling mistakes in Tenable.

It is amateurish at times. They misspelt John Betjeman. And now the fish pollock is "pollack".

**** off.

**** off you ****in *****.
