The voting has been tallied up and we finally have the results of the:
Game of the Year Awards 2018
Working through the general categories first:
Bordersdown Best 2017 Game Played in 2018 Award
The action RPG proved a popular title for users to belatedly catch up on last year, taking the top spot for this category to make its mark one more time.
Runner Ups: Resident Evil VII, What Remains of Edith Finch
Predicted Flop of 2019
It's staggering that we're even looking at having a release for this game any year let alone this year but a successful funding drive hasn't squashed expectations that the game will finally tank the franchise for good when it see's its eventual release. Taking the spot for your choice of biggest predicted failure of the year is the third Shenmue.
Runner Ups: Anthem, Crackdown 3
Most Anticipated Game of 2019
An incredibly convincing win over all other titles due this year, the remake of Resident Evil 2 is your choice for the game you are most anticipating this year. Capcom will be returning with a heavily reworked recreation of the classic game that revives the RE4 gameplay style.
Runner Ups: Cyberpunk 2077, Devil May Cry V
Platform of the Year 2018
It's almost traditional now but once again the PS4 was the forums choice for top platform of the year. Coming off another strong year, the console had delivered several first party success stories that helped drive a successful push into its twilight days.
Runner Ups: PSVR, Nintendo Switch
Worst Game of 2018
How far we've come that the newest big release from Bethesda, in the Fallout franchise no less, wins the title for the forums choice of worst game of the year. Fallout 76 has been a disaster of a product launch, likely causing lasting damage to the franchise and the result is this steamer of an award.
Runner Ups: Sea of Thieves, Tempest 4000
Bordersdown Game of the Year 2018
Here is the final countdown of the years biggest vote winners. One point of note in the voting was that for all the success the game had, Sony's Spider-Man missed out by a staggering margin.
Third Place - God of War
The revamp held up well in voting compared to Sony's more recent AAA effort but in the end could only manage a third place finish in this tale of Kratos and his son. A visual showcase for the system, the game calmed Kratos and the scale of his adventures down but placed the camera beside his eyes to keep some of the scale of the past games and proved highly popular for the directorial decision.
Second Place - Red Dead Redemption II
Rockstars first and likely only game of this generation of consoles is a magnum opus of the wild west. A massive trawling game that borders on anal about recreating aspects of life in the dying days of the trails. The game has been a massive hit, it's online aspects perhaps lacking impact the investors may have hoped would be recreated from GTA but otherwise a titan of the 2018 release schedule but it couldn't quite take this years crown.
The Bordersdown Game of the Year 2018
Sony's PSVR title has been winning plaudits left, right and centre amongst those with the headset and reactions have been strong enough to see the platformer become this years winning title above all others. Making full use of the controller combined with the unique perspective the VR headset allows for, Astrobot may not win the column inches that other games do but it has won the hearts of those who've played it.
