The Arcade Sticks Thread

Seems we lost the thread in the forum outage (or at least, I searched titles for "arcade stick" and "sticks" and didn't find it) so I'm starting a new one to ask a quesiton.

    Has anyone ever used these?

A couple of things are interesting me in it; the smaller size and the PS3 and 4 compatibility (presumably PC too?). I used to have a TE years ago but I think the sheer space investment is kinda behind me now. Shame it isn't wireless (sacrelige!!) but I'll just have to cope.

Thinking of getting this in anticipation of DoA6 next month.

That one kinda sucks. If you want a small stick I’d probably look at this Mad Catz, you can even mod it with proper parts.

Should feel much more like what you’re used to.

    Edit: Old thread https://bordersdown.net/threads/93621

I like it (and it's cheaper) but it has one problem - you can't fan out your four fingers on your right hand to cover 4 buttons (due to it having two rows of three).

The nice thing about the Hori one is you can use it in a "two rows of three" posture or like an SNK posture:

... which is useful for DoA as the game has four buttons.

Sounds daft to ask but it isn't quite evident from the picture - can you do that with the Mad Catz stick?

I think the Mad Catz stick is a better fit to that NG stick layout honestly.

I’ve never had any issues using a 6B for 4 button games like BlazBlue.

Just read a few reviews and I've seen a flaw in this plan; people seem to say it's hard to use these sticks on your lap, because they're too narrow. That might be something of a deal-breaker as I don't use a desk to play. I never thought about it before, but it makes sense.

(also can a mod merge this with the other arcade stick thread?)

speedlolita do you own one of those Alpha sticks? How are they for lap play? (ooh-errr missus, etc.)

They're a bit too small for resting comfortably on your lap, so I set mine on a hardcover book.

Nah I don’t. Was going to for my supergun but I ended up just gutting my Qanba instead. Size was a concern for lap play!

Ah yeah, that's an option. I could go grab a Hairy Bikers cookbook for a pound from the discount bookshop and use that.

May I interest you in this most excellent The Coffee Table Book of Coffee Tables?

Seriously, it's the most comfortable way I've found to use my Fighting Stick Mini since I also don't sit at a desk when playing my PS3.
