Fortnite Ps4 Pc and Xbox (PS4 version tested)

This is finally out on PlayStation xbox and pc and for 30 it's great value for what's on offer here, it's a co-op base building shooter with an emphasis on working together to build and protect forts from swarms of zombies, I've only done the first few missions but what you get is Homebase expansion missions and story based missions. The basic story is a strange storm has wiped out most of the human race and turned nearly everyone into zombies It's your job to find and save survivors and fight back the storm.

The base expansion missions revolve Around protecting your shield while it shuts down for expansion, this expands your base area and lets you explore your surroundings more.

The story missions I've done so far all have 3 phases to them these are search, build and defend.
First off you search and harvest the environments for materials and survivors, the second stage revolves around building defences and the final stage of the mission is fighting off swarms of zombies. One mission had me searching for survivors finding a weather station, defending It by by building a fort around it then launching the weather balloon to monitor the storm from my home base.

Their are different heroes you can choose which seem to be quite similar to overwatch or team fortress in style and exicution, you get builders, weapon specialists, ninjas (mele specialists) and a strange class I've not messed with yet. Building is fun and quick, shooting is nice and solid and overall it's a really nice package. I can see me putting a lot of time into my home base and the story.

So been putting quite a bit of time into this over the last few days got a team now and its a lot more fun with others as you can take your time with missions and explore and harvest at your own pace. The levels are always interesting and are absolutely huge, it also keeps thing interesting by giving you a steady stream of unlocks and new side quests.

The game world is really nicely detailed and full of humour it never feels like its repeating itself either. The maps are huge too. So far I've done forest maps, suburb type maps and scavenging the levels is always a joy. last night while searching the woods we came across an old abandoned visitors centre in a clearing that was chocked full of resources and an old abandoned tower that was well worth climbing as it had tons of rare loot.

likewise in the city map ransacking houses and finding secret cashes of ammo, survivors and rare weapon schematics pushes you on to have a could scavenge. I was quite surprised how the levels can expand upwards as well as downwards Mine's basements and caves, or tower blocks, radar masts and look out towers scale things up and down.

I've also been looking more into how this game will transfer over to the free to play model next year and its an interesting one as there clearly wanting to make it worthwhile to buy and play now. So those that bought this earn an in game currency called founder coins, when the game goes free to play next year those coins wont be available as rewards if your on the free to play mode. And you wont earn the in game currency by doing missions either if you want the reward boxes you will need to purchase them via micro transactions, so im quite happy now that i have the non hobbled version and am enjoying it for what it is.

Been playing this alot on PS4, it's really a fun game in coop. I'm a few pages into the 2nd set of quests now and I'm finding the difficulty is picking up, really need to make sure to keep equipment levelled up on this. I only got the standard edition but got quite lucky and got a Legendary Soldier hero a few days in. I can see this lasting quite awhile, building is alot of fun and the combat is good.

... I was actually really sold on this until I read that.

I don't mind that they're doing an F2P version, but that makes me worried that it'll cripple the existing game.

At the moment it feels a lot like the overwatch model, the lammas that you buy are a way to speed up progression but don't always guarantee something that will be useful to you. there a side dish that's not required to play the game.

Your daily quests and mission progression give you enough loot to keep you going and i've not felt hampered or like I've hit a wall with progression. Every level you do gives you XP and your constantly levelling up and finding new and interesting stuff just by playing the game.
