    Ha ha :-)

Well, not quite. You aren’t going to like it, CMcK!

Ok, I can TOTALLY understand why some people hate it. I’m not on about regular critics. They’re ignorant.

The plot is very wonky and littered with inconsistencies and illogicalities. Likewise, the dialogue is laughably bad in places, and the exposition is indeed laid on in big thick dollops. All fair criticisms. However, I absolutely did not care one jot. That probably makes me undemanding and brainless in this case, but frankly, it’s exactly what I need from a film like this. It’s Godzilla.

I really didn’t mind the bad. The pace of the film - bar one sag in the middle that sucked me out of the picture and made me realise how wonky the whole affair is - is quick and clinical. There’s plenty happening and not really any flab. The actions sequences are excellent. Yeah, they are dark, but I felt that added to the apocalyptic atmosphere. The CGI effects are truly excellent. Some reviews called it ‘disaster porn’. Yeah. And? It’s about big monsters duking it out. I really liked the atmosphere created by the filmmakers. Some things were ludicrous, but it’s not a FEMA case study. All the human stuff is pretty lame, but the monster sequences and behaviours are fascinating, exciting and entertaining.

The kaiju themselves look amazing. They’re distinctive yet totally recognisable. Several action sequences really made the jaw drop and stick in the memory.

I can’t deny that, for all its faults, I bloody loved it.
