That link doesn't seem right...? But 10-15 hours is hardly brisk. That's a long game. I just finished Doom 3 and that was probably 12 hours or so. It's too long for that type of game.

Esp.Ra.De is a nightmare to search for.
It keeps taking me here :

Sorry, I've fixed the link in my post. The site has multiple news stories one page and as you scroll through, it changes the URL.
          Actual link: https://twinfinite.net/2019/08/contr...pier-about-it/

The article says 10-15 is good, but references 20-30 with padding is excessive.

"As an adult that has enough disposable income to get pretty much any game I want, I wish the 10-15 hour campaign was the norm for most games, and the super long JRPGs or open-world games were fewer in number.

There’s just too much coming out these days, and it’s great for the most part; I’m not going to complain about a never-ending pile of worthwhile video games to play.

The problem is, I can never get through them all if they all are going to push 20-30 hours minimum and some that are even double, triple or even quadruple that.

There’s a time and place for both, but presumably in an effort to compete many developers are finding ways to extend the playtime as much as possible."

Since finishing RDR2, I've been catching up on films, books and TV.
I tried to play something the other day, but couldn't commit.
I went with Vanquish. Why? Because I'd heard it was short...

I think for me, few games outside of RPGs have justified a play time of longer than about 8 hours. Even some of my all-time favourites (like Silent Hill 2), I feel are guilty of just dragging out parts (in that example, the prison for example which was placed really where it felt we should be ending to me).

And as I've said before, I think we should have way more movie-length games. Not suggesting at all that every game should be that short but we should have more of them and the longer games shouldn't feel the need to get their hour counts into double digits.

Of my massive backlog, the last game I completed was What Remains of Edith Finch.
I did it in one sitting. Loved it.
Zillions of other "better" games sat unplayed because I feel I commit to another long-term relationship.

Yep, I think a game like that is better in a single sitting because it builds and brings you with it without a random break put in between and you coming back having forgotten where you were. Same with the likes of Gone Home - it's absolutely at its best as something you play in one go.

And as you say, part of it is a commitment thing. I'm the same - there are many games I just won't start because I know I don't have the time to give them.

If Control is marked as a 10-15hr experience it'll presumably take 8-10 in real terms which is about right for that type of game. #FastShowVoice Nice

Indivisible will launch for PC, PS4, and XBO this October; within 2019 on the Switch.

There has been a new update for Anthem that's been thrown out there. It adds a new time limited mode and hasn't been reviewed very well.

I just wanted to contrast this with the No Mans Sky update. Both NMS and Anthem released to middling reviews and were slated by the gaming community at launch. Since then Hello Games have worked hard to turn the ship around and subsequent updates have made huge improvements to the game. I haven't played it in some time but the game seems to have a growing fan base now and a real appreciation for what Hello Games are doing.
Bioware have an opportunity to do the same but instead have released an update with zero fanfare and to poor reviews. Bioware have more money and the backing of the biggest game publisher but its obvious that they care little for the game they made and EA don't seem to give a **** either. I don't know what my conclusion is to this, i guess I just wanted to highlight a juxtaposition that seems to be happening.

Yeah, credit to Hello Games. They're making efforts to improve the game beyond the original scope, listen to the fans and they've garnered some real support.

Reading some of the Twitter comments on the PSVR trailer they posted yesterday, there was a lot of positive tweets and one guy was saying "...like you promised at launch" and a few people put him in his place explaining VR was never in the launch brief, they're improving the game further. VR mode, for free? Amazing!

They definitely dropped the ball at the start, but they've definitely turned things around.

I felt burned with NMS when it launched but after hearing about the changes I’m preparing myself to give it another go. There was something compelling about the game but it lacked a reason to carry on. I’m hoping that with more content there is more of a motive to continue. I still don’t see any giant sand worms but I’ll take what I can get.

Pleased by sales of the remasters of Crash Bandicoot and Sypro, Activision are apparently going to press ahead on making new games in both series. They're also going to look to issue remasters of other games. Era posted this list of Activision's IPs and man, it's hard to know what they'll revisit without misreading the market or shelling out license money:
