Americans have TV Seasons don't they? We have series.

It doesn't sound right to say 'I watched Fawlty Towers Season 2 the other day'.

They use both words but when they say different series they mean a different show - like Lost is one series and Heroes is another. They say season to mean what we mean when we say different series. I'm all for resisting the americanization of UK english.

I prefer calling each individual year a season and the entire show as the series.

It just seems weird to me to use the word series for each individual year and the entire show overall.

Its because they literally last (more than) a season - they have their winter/spring series and their summer/autumn series.

I use both for each region, I've always called a US show Seasons and a UK show Series, 24 Season 5/Spooks Series 5. I would never call a UK show a Season though, it's just wrong.
