Some stone cold classics in here. I'm going to have to give it to Blade Runner but I feel like I'm betraying ET and The Thing. Truth is, they are all amazing movies. And given their age it's pretty amazing how well all three hold up to this day.

There are a few others I think worthy of a vote, such as Wrath of Khan. I'm even giving Airplane 2 a vote - yeah, I know it completely recycles the first movie but it also has Shatner and one of my favourite visual gags with the screen/door. And Conan the Barbarian is one of my personal favourites too. So 1982 is a good year for movies.

Some corkers on that list Blade Runner and The Thing are quality standouts but it's Spielberg who gets my top vote this year.

E.T. is the film that made me love films when I was a kid. I was 10 when my granddad took me to the cinema to see it and I've never forgotten the experience. Even more treasured as the home market was so under-developed, that one viewing in the cinema was precious. Even now, every time I watch it I can't fight the tears back. Beautiful, perfect film.

I almost didn't vote for Blade Runner, given we were supposed to having flying cars and replicants by this month according to the film - we don't so that's on Ridley Scott.

Hmm, or maybe we do and the Voight-Kampff tests are just not as definitive.

Loads of good stuff in 1982, but the one I've got the closest relationship with is E.T.. I'm a little younger than some of you ye olde tymers on here, so I first watched it on VHS in the 90s.

I was obsessed with aliens and space and my Mum and Dad sat me down, aged about 6, put the tape on, and told me 'You are really going to like this film'. They were right!

It's a wonderful, affecting, exciting film, and it never gets old for me. Like Atticus I'm always manfully trying to fight back tears when I watch it to this day :')

Blade Runner because it may be the greatest movie ever for reasons I can't quite explain . I just love the tone. I haven't even seen it many times but in a cinema a few years ago it felt so special. In contrast, the wife always falls asleep. Not because she doesn't enjoy it, but because of it's ambience.

Loads of good stuff in this poll. First Blood is tremendous, The Thing is one of John Carpenter’s best films, Wrath of Khan is the best Star Trek film and a genuinely good film period.
I’m surprised to see Tron get so many votes it’s really not up there with other stuff on the list.
Overall though I have to give the nod to Bladerunner. I’ve watched it over and over, played the PC adventure game and find the premise fascinating. The imagery of the film is stunning with the moody soundtrack completely suiting it too. I can see my HD-DVD getting replaced with the UHD version soon.
