North West Leeds police are appealing for witnesses after a man in fancy dress was attacked and robbed of an expensive replica Star Wars lightsaber on New Year's Day.
Between 1.30am and 2am the 37-year-old victim, who was dressed as Star Wars character Obi-Wan Kenobi, was walking home along Queen's Road, Hyde Park, after a New Year's Eve party.
As he walked past the Harolds area, he was attacked from behind by four Asian youths who stole the lightsaber, which was a Master Replica FX costing more than ?100. He received a broken rib and serious bruising to his back.
The distinctive collectors item, which is a long illuminated tube with a handle which makes sound effects, is normally only available online or from specialist shops.
Officers are particularly keen to trace two witnesses who went to the aid of the man. They were a white man and woman, aged in their twenties, who are believed to live locally.
