Reckon I'll get arrested at Dubai Airport for wearing shorts?

I'm passing through Dubai on my way to Singapore this week and I've heard wearing shorts can get you arrested.

Will this still be the case considering I'm only transferring there and won't be leaving the airport?

    Cheers.

I can't offer any advice I'm afraid, but - SERIOUSLY?

    (Edit)

    According to this URL: http://uk.travel.yahoo.com/p-promo-3312428

Other laws you should know about
Shopping in shorts could attract attention from the authorities - unless you're on the beach or by the pool, then anything tight, transparent, short or displaying your stomach, shoulders or back if you're a woman, is considered indecent. Same if you're a man in shorts or displaying a bare chest. Photography of certain government buildings is also illegal, as is perusing any form of pornographic material. If all else fails, smuggle in a bacon sandwich – pork is banned – and a poppy seed roll will add to the criminality of the action, as poppy seeds are also on the UAE's forbidden list.

Just ask the airline as they will know what is the regulations are.

I think you will be fine, but no idea. Don't snog heavily in public.

Be interested to hear what you think of the experience, particularly if you are going through the new T3 - if you are flying EK you most likely will be.

Lots of reports that it is no better than before it was opened which doesn't fill me with hope for our trips.

I travelled to Mumbai via Dubai last November. Wore shorts and didn't get arrested.

I had sex on the beach in Dubai last year and was fine.

I travelled through Dubai twice in the last fornight to get connection flights to and from Japan and was also worried about the crazy laws they apparently inforced at the airport.

I was wearing jeans but there was plenty of people wearing shorts wandering around freely that still had their freedom. There was even a few girls wandering around in strappy tops, short skirts etc but the majority seemed to have made some effort covered up.

To be honest it was just like a normal airport, the only thing I'd check is medication as there's some seeminly innocent stuff you can buy off the shelf in the Uk (pain killers, allergy relief etc) that is illegal in Dubai.

Wear zip off trousers - covers both bases. Just don't wear a safari waistcoat with it - that look is just so wrong.

Depends on how short your shorts are and how long you are...

You sir are my new hero!

I didn't know allergy relief is illegal there? Hmm - I'll have to give it a miss if I'm ever asked to connect through there!

By sheer coincidence, I booked a flight today for my year in Kyoto, flying via Dubai using Emirates. Sounds like as long as I'm completely covered (despite the heat) and carry absolutely no medication whatsoever, I might actually make it to Japan.

I hear the jails in Dubai are good fun anyway.

This. Get yourself a pair of Craghoppers and get the best of both worlds.

It was pretty poor overall. The place is just tacked up with totally pointless features like big glittery cylinders that just get in the way, and that they have designated members of staff clean up. I was walking around the place and mental imagery price tags were popping up all over the place like Tyler Durden's apartment. Unnecessary spending at it's best.

The actual arrival lobbies with the escalators were mint though, lovely blue and brown marble with chrome everywhere, it reminded me of the airport from PD.

I had to wait there for 6hrs. I was bored out of my wit like never before. They had this same music loop on repeat all night long. Also, they had these wonderfully appealing looking seats to rest in that are amongst the normal gate waiting areas. Trying to grab a couple of hours kip on them is absolutely pointless as they seem to be designed to keep you awake, I kept unwillingly sliding into a slouched position with all my blood rushing to my legs.

I was glad to get out of there. Probably the most boring 6hrs mid-transit in my entire life.

I'm here in Singapore now though, and the Mrs' Landlord+Landlady are a right sweet pair, even if they don't speak a single word of English.
