Phone advice for dark ages user

I had a Nokia 5800. I left it on the roof of my car so is gone now...

    I liked this phone because:
It was robust, light and pretty much indestructible (<<< edit, when I originally typed that, I put "I" instead of "It". Made me laugh).
Touchscreen (albeit a resistive one, but on the slight plus side, I could use it with my mountain bike gloves on).
    GPS
    Wifi
    Bluetooth
    Sports-tracker.com app
Nokia Maps (free offline GPS navigation)
Sync with Outlook contacts and calendar.
Mostly I liked it because with daily use of GPS and mobile network for hours of running or cycling, I'd still only have to charge it once a week.

What on earth do I get to replace it? All the new stuff seems to need charging daily.
I'm so out of touch I have no idea what to get. There are some new Nokia with windows, so I might have to go with that. I was considering an old Nokia off ebay, but perhaps I just need to move in the "future" and get a 620 or something. My wife has an HTC which I'm trying out, but the android interface is ghastly and totally unintuitive. I feel like such an old man.

If you like the 5800, why not just get another one?

I replaced mine with a HTC Desire which has subsequently been replaced with a Galaxy S III - the thing with Android is you can completely customise it to exactly how you like it. I don't regret moving to Android one bit. The S III is due to be replaced with the S-IV very shortly, so they may well become a bargain like the S II has (and that's still a brilliant phone).

I will sneak in early to ruin the thread...I was using an ancient samsung thing but not in mountain bike gloves...oven gloves for greggs sausage rolls is more me, but having been given an old iphone 3GS I really couldn't imagine going back to another phone...

I am ridiculously behind the times in tech that isn't games but apps wise it has pretty much everything too.

I had a windows phone for a few weeks before I smashed it....wasn't a Nokia tho tbf but it made me want my old phone back.

I feel like a filthy apple shill now, tho they probably shun me too seeing as I wont have a newer version for 5 years

That's an option, but I like shiny new things. Buying the same thing years later seems daft. There must be something out there that's similar but new(er)?

How do I customise an HTC then? There's a personalise area, but it keeps asking me to sign into my HTC sense account.

I'm not pathologically against getting an iphone, but based on my experience with ipads and ipad minis (menus make no sense, interface is too stripped back for me), I don't think I'm going to enjoy it much.

You can download launcher apps from the Play store then customise as you like. See here as a small inference: http://www.knowyourmobile.com/smartp...launchers.html

I'm not sure about the HTC sense account nonsense though, that was never a problem with my HTC Desire.

I am considering getting an old phone as I'm so sick of modern smartphone batteries not lasting a whole day. I have an Xperia S and it's on charge now because the battery dropped to 12% in 12 hours. It must be some app or setting though because the other day it managed over 48 hours. I miss my Nokia E72

I've just bought my wife a Nokia 206 as she needs something basic with a long battery life.
Absolutely basic but 20hr talk and 1 month standby
