    Camera gear from hong kong

Anyone imported any camera gear from hong kong? Specifically I want a samyang 7.5mm fisheye. Available for ?169 from hong kong, much cheaper than over here (UK). Just wondering how likely I am to get a customs charge?

I did, but imported it in Italy. Bought from an eBay shop, not downmarked and paid normal import duties.

You are likely to get a customs charge unless you ship via surface mail (non courier). If you ship via a courier there is a 99% chance you will get done for customs.

Ah ok thanks. how do I find out how much I'll be charged? I'm not in a hurry for it but no point unless I still end up saving money. Thanks!

There's a handling fee (usually around ?12-15), VAT at 20% and import duty at 6.7% (it's higher for lenses). The duty and VAT is paid on the total declared including the shipping and insurance costs.

Handy website for working this stuff out: http://www.dutycalculator.com/

Thanks. Barely any saving so not worth it sadly.
