Apple laptop batteries

I have inherited a white MacBook from the mother in law. It's in great shape bar the battery, which has no charge.

Has anybody bought one of the 3rd party batteries off of eBay, and it been worth the money?

Keep a look out for genuine batteries, you can get some good deals with the right search and some luck which then make the risk of buying a a potentially crap 3rd party battery, not an option.

I bought a 3rd party battery for my old 2008 Macbook Pro. It worked fine... except for the fact that I couldn't turn the laptop on without plugging it into the wall. (Once on I could disconnect it). That was the same for the replacement they sent, too, making both about as useful as as .. something not useful (it's late).
