    The Default topic!

So, it's gonna get asked sooner or later:

Your favourite game from the past 20 years, not including this generation?

(Yes, that makes teh dreamcast eligible!)

Shinobi (Arcade) - I still thrash this game regularly, thanks to MAME-X. It controls like a dream, amazing level design, and dripping with Sega-playability goodness.

Plus it was rock hard, and had a fantastic learning curve.

Hard to choose between Ocarina of Time and A Link To The Past for me. Magical games that are excellent first time through, but still keep their charm for further plays. If i had to pick, I'd choose OOT...

It's soooo Elite, but Wonderboy III (teh Dragon's trap) is a very close second. Had a blast just the other week on that and it is still brilliant to play... got stuck though

            Mario 64.

            Revolutionary, beautiful and brilliant.
The title screen where you could play with Mario's face is better than 80% of games. The actual game is better than every other game I have ever played.

              Im undecided tbh

              I'd probably say either

              Mario 3

              Super Metroid

              FF7

              or Syndicate

Has to be Mario 64 cos it made me go weak at the knees in HMV when I saw it for the first time. Had to buy a Hong Kong 64 just to play it.

Final Fantasy 7. This is only RPG that I've ever played more than twice and still find it utterly compelling and imo Sephiroth is the greatest videogame villian ever. He is such a don.

Its only when your halfway through the 3rd disc that it finally dawns on you, holy crap she really isn't coming back. .

                      Super Metroid

Few games have I completed as many times as SM.
It captured my imagination in a special way, and nothing since has quite replicated the experience of exploring a fully developed game world, gaining additional items, and exciting blasting. Or even the hidden secrets and cool glitches.

From the eerie start, through the haunting Meridia depths, to the gripping climax.
Cnimatic, action packed, full of details, lovely.
Not even its 3D sequel could match the same joy found in SM.

Oh, and Samus' standing sprite image, was different for wether she faced left or right, so none of that ambidextrous guns changing hands nonsense.
                      A showcase of 2D wonderfullness.

If forced to, I would say this is the best game of all time, for me anyway.

                        Thats very tough.

It would be between Tempest 2000, Shenmue II, Rez and Street Fighter II Turbo.

I can't narrow it down any further than that

Strider (Arcade) - some pixel perfect level-design on Capcom's part creates a game that I never tire of playing. In fact, more happens in Strider's first level than the complete experience of lesser games.

                            Truely top stuff.

                            Other notable mentions go to:

                            Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES)
Super Street Fighter 2 X: Grandmaster Challenge (Arcade)
                            Virtua Racing (Arcade)
                            Rave Racer (Arcade)
