    Star Wars: Battlefront

There's a short demo of this on the latest issue of Official PS2 UK, and have had a couple of gos on it so far. It's actually pretty good fun, although quite rough around the edges. Inevitably, the PS2 version is probably going to end up being the worst of the three (PS2, Xbox and PC). The graphics are a bit muddy, although perhaps that's just because the demo is of the Endor level. The controls are also a little bit loose...the aiming system seems a little strange, a weird crossbreed of precision aim and auto-aim. Methinks a mouse and keyboard will be far superior, but the Xbox pad with its superior analogue sticks should also be a small improvement.

Effectively a Star Wars version of the PC's Battlefield series, the idea in the demo is that playing as either the Rebel Alliance or the Empire you have to capture all of the Command Points on the battlefield. Each side has a certain number of reinforcements and it's game over if your side runs out. It's fun in single player, but with so many AI characters running around it's actually quite easy for the battle to be win or lost entirely without your intervention, which isn't hugely fun. This will almost certainly come into its own online, although the 16 player limit on the console versions (not sure about the PC version) might be a disappointment.

The frontend's terrible, and there's a serious bug within the options where the button mapping just doesn't work, but apart from that, it's definitely a fun demo that suggests this could be a good game. It's probably one for online people only, mind, and as such, the PS2 version is almost certainly going to come least recommended of the three.

I like the look of this game, it sure has potential. Of course the PS2 version is going to suffer serious problems and that demo should never of been released because it really puts the game in a bad light.

If its a decent game I will definitely get the XB version.

Fingers crossed, because it should be good.

Not true - the single-player mode is incredibly solid and enjoyable (although obviously, I can't actually tell you much about it... but Galactic Conquest, where you battle across the galaxy back and forth to claim it all for yourself, is great fun).

The PC version can handle 32 players online against the console versions' 16. The computer picks up the slack with bots, obviously, but still... who wants to be shot by a bot rather than your mates? Thank god the game's got more than enough quality to work past this tiny oversight.
