you should paint the tip of the black cats tail white so it gives off the illusion

doubt it'd have strength to walk on though

Hehe, there's something really funny about your cat moulded on to the top of a Shuttle PC, they should use it for a promotional image on their website.

my old cat, its not this one but pretty much identical, he died 2 years ago or so, of cancer :( had to be put down, beatiful cat though, but pretty inactive, and dumb

now have a burman which is the most intelligent and clever cat I've ever seen, its also a little bit evil, it dragged a live chicken through the cat flap the other day, and the woman up the road complained it eats her expensive coy carp from her carp farm too, she was in tears about it lol

stealthful, he's called wilson, the first was called montgomery, I'm sure wilson is montgomery reincarnated, something like kit in knight rider 2000, sleeker and more agile.

His name is Mandu, we got him from a friend of the family who's kid had already named him that, hilariously, after Catmandu. More often than not he gets called Mani (not that mani, he's a ****) or Little Man, but that name has been taken by our first kiddie.

One of my favourite photo's of him :

Marcus - I "think" it's a persian trait. During my short period with one he was forever lying like it - in the garden, wood floor, bathroom etc etc.
IMO they are the most gorgeous, loveable cats. Does yours consistantly meow to you ?? Mine would just look at me and meow for hours. awwww god rest him.

I vote for more Neko pictures - they're killing me !

Hes quite talkative yeah, probably one of his more amusing things is that he has these mad impulses to push things off shelves, mobile phones, coins and so on. Usually its funny, but sometimes its a pain especially 4.30am when Im woken by the sound of my car keys smashing on the floor >_< Hes got such a lovely nature, doesnt bite anyone, claw anything he shouldnt, and has different things he does with each person in my household, I couldnt of asked for a nicer cat really. Hes spoilt rotten though, Im a right sucker for those big blue eyes :P

I've never heard of the ragdoll breed before, but the name brings back memories of that species which has been bred to go totally limp when handled by humans, which I found quite disturbing. Really beautiful cat though. I normally find pure-bred cats a little weird looking - give me a short-haired moggy any day! Not in this case. The only other pure-breed I've seen that made me go all gooey was that Bengal kitten that the ctrl-alt-del guy had. Like a little grey tiger it was...

The white one is mo I call her baby mo since shes about two years old but still hasnt grown! the black and one cat is called alfie but I call him the don since he is big and fat and looks at you like he's calculated some mischief like the Don (Marlon Brando) in the Godfather.

If I wasn't allergic to cat fur, I would probably take that offer :(

We had our kittens from when they were born (we looked after the mother for a few years) so the kittens knew me right from the start, so they were never a problem for us. A lot of cats seem to hate me though  An old mate of mine used to have a Persian and a Tabby - the Persian loved me but the Tabby wanted to rip my liver out and eat it. It would even hiss at me when I entered the house and then walk out the room :pft:

Some great pics there, I rarely post here, but i feel inspired.

Heres my cat Moriarty (name of Sherlock Holmes fame...) looking suitably, er cute?

http://www.btinternet.com/~colin.toovey/badassmofo.jpg

Sadly departed last year, Ben a burmese who was my grandmothers cat before she died, was a wonderful character, also could do the most amazing things with his neck when sleeping... crazy animal...

http://www.btinternet.com/~colin.toovey/ben/ben2.jpg

Our maine coone cat, Cassy, shes completely mental, known to hiss and purr at the same time, also flips between wanting attention and wanting you to leave her alone, in the blink of an eye, heres a wonderful shot of her looking photogenic, dont be fooled, shes nuts.

http://www.btinternet.com/~colin.toovey/cats/cas/cas2.jpg

Heres Pippen, my mothers and sisters cat, very affectionate, if a ladies cat...

http://www.btinternet.com/~colin.toovey/cats/pip3.jpg

Henry, sadly departed 2 years ago, very well tempered cat, was a rescue cat, made 18 years with us, lovely chap. Here with Ben in the sun, unpossed picture too :)

http://www.btinternet.com/~colin.toovey/cats/pip3.jpg

Our one year old burmese, Mya here was a companion for ben before he departed. They where very close, shes a lovely character, if a bit crazy (dashes round the house at 100mph at random intervals)

Here she is with ben.
http://hex.fireflyinternet.co.uk/stuff/yingyang.jpg[url]

Here she is pictured by my friend Stan.
[url]http://hex.fireflyinternet.co.uk/stuff/Mya_by_thesubstitute.jpg

My sisters cat, Tim, not very personable, but likes some attention sometimes, if it leads to him aquiring milk.

Here he is trying his hand at boxing.
http://hex.fireflyinternet.co.uk/stuff/boxing2.jpg

We also have a new brown burmese who is a companion for mya, they love each other to bits, its sickening. I have no decent photos so we'll get some.
Yeah were mad for having 6 cats, but Cassy lives outside most the time, and Morry, Pippen, Tim are all outdoor cats, so we mostly just see the 2 burmese. Works out quite well.

icarus0 sorry to hear about Oscar and ye it really does take the piss when they expect you to pay for putting your cat down and the amount they expect you to pay too.

Hexxed, your cats are gorgeous! Cassy's mood changes sound just like Tiggi - she's perfectly fine one minute and then wanting to bite your hand off the next.. and I thought a female cat would be nicer than a tom cat - I've always kept male cats before who were actually less temperamental than her! But they'r all different arent they? Bloody personalities.. http://ntsc-uk.domino.org/images/smilie/smile.gif

Me and the gf have just had to hold down Lucky and extract something that had got embedded in the length of his jaw.

There was lots and lots of green puss, a lot of hissing, some salt water to wash the wound, more hissing, and a huge lump of hard crap removed from down in his jaw line (might even been a part of another cats claw but it was hard to tell).

Managed to get it all out, but he's gone to hide under the bed now where we can't get him. Poor little bugger.

The joys of owning a pet aye?

Looked like it might have been a claw. It was hard and slightly hook shaped - I doubt it was one of his own so he's probably been scrapping with the neighbours again.

I'll have to wait till he emerges from under the bed to get another look at him, but you're right that a trip to the vet might be in order tommorow morning

edit: maybe the spider got him :o

edit: maybe the spider got him :o
now you've got the perfect excuse to kill it

It is hard to tell what caused the injury, might have been a cat but most cat fight injuries normally appear on on the backside as cats curl up when they fight, but theres always a chance that a rival cat caught its claw in your cats jaw. As you said your cat was hissing and probably putting up a fight when you tried to take a closer look at its wound, so its in obvious discomfort, if i was you i would take it to the vet just to be sure.

RLench
05-08-2005, 10:12 PM
Yeah, take it to the vet just to be sure. If it's cut inside its mouth then that could get infected, make it painful to eat etc. It's better to be safe and take him to the vets

marcus

They will probably put a bit of cream and a plaster on it, and charge you ?200 :)

Talking of which, I always used PetPlan insurance for my cat, but the premium has jumped from 12 a month to 20, apparently because of the type of cat he is :/

Neko is looking as good as ever I see =) Just wondering, do you let him roam outside Marcus ?? I always thought (And have been led to believe) that the breed is a more "indoors" cat. That the way with Neko ??

I use a plain old Sony Cybershot, its a couple of years old now and is 3mp.

Hes an indoors cat, although I let him outside at the same time each day now for an hour or so. Hes a lot happier afterwards, and the area is kind of enclosed plus I am able to supervise him from my flat window just in case he gets up to anything :-)

Last night Neko fell/jumped off my outside windowledge, I noticed he was gone, but it was a good 20 mins searching the flat and outside before I found him out the front hiding beneath a rose bush. Im a second story flat, thankfully there is grass below rather than pavement as Im not sure what would of happened had he jumped from that far up onto a hard surface. Thankfully hes been fine since.

This thread has inspired me to get two kittens. Currently only 3 days old and not in my possession as of yet but they're mine:D

I'm gonna pop up to my old next door neighbour and say hello to the littluns..

One is tabby and the other is ginger, Me and the gf have decided on calling the tabby "Franky" and the other "Charly" (old skool Prodigy reference there)

Will get some pictures up soon when they're mine yay!! :D

well, here they are, 2 months ago as seen in the thread above I wanted kittens and now i have two. Been watching them grow since they were born at the owners but today was the day i collected them for my own keeping and they're adorable as heaven!!

We have a brother and sister here, the ginger boy is called Charly (From the Prodigy tune, you guessed it) and the brown/white hybrid is Franky the girl.

They love exploring with Charly always following Franky about it's great to see them getting on so well within one day of being here!

Is it normal for cats to be obsessed with Jade Goody?

Whenever that mind-numbing prog comes on about her trying to start her own business, Lucky becomes absolutely transfixed on the TV.

Every time he hears her voice he's mesmerised. Is she catnip personified or something?

my cat will climb up on you and lick any flesh she can, face, ears, hand, arm... she pumps her arms at the same time as well

I did read once what it was about, they grab with their arms cos when they were kittens they did that to get milk, proabably the same for licking. It also means they love you :)

My kittens are using my jeans to climb up my leg onto my PC desk lately because they see bits and bobs flying about the screen in BF2... this morning when i was trying out Rag Doll Kung Fu, Franky saw the dolls flying about and decided she wanted a look see.

So she got ready to climb up, jumped and realised there's no jeans to climb onto and fell to the floor and ran away to her hidey hole  classic!

Heres some pics of my lot.

Poppy - The first one we inherited (about 9 years). The greatest cat in the world, so placid and loves to sleep on you knee. And shes got a cute gold collar.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v115/LaParka666/HPIM0399.jpg

Missy - The cute one! got her as a kitten with Digby from the cat protection society. In this pic shes saying hello. Oh and she sleeps 'inside' the toilet.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v115/LaParka666/HPIM0395.jpg

Digby - The satanic one. He was semi-feral when he was taken the cat protection. He was put in with missy and her mother (also feral) so they're kind of surrogate siblings and absolutely inseperable. It was quite tough going with him. The first two months he never came out from under his bed. And it took us a year to actually be able to stroke him without him taking a finger off. Now he absolutely worships my wife, but he still has his nasty streak he leaves for me!!

Picture with me

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v115/LaParka666/HPIM0394.jpg

Picture with Gemma

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v115/LaParka666/Picture013.jpg

The last one we inherited was Tigger. He's about 14 and just fat, he was my grans (before she passed on) who only fed him half a tin of food a day and some biscuits. We later found out he used to go to at least two other neighbours houses who would feed him. He's lost quite a bit of weight since being with us but he can really moan when he's hungry. He was once the weight of two adult cats!!!

Im lucky in that there is a communial garden area where its very unlikely he would be able to get out (as in where the cars and roads are). He, for some reason, rarely jumps, so doesnt manage to overcome even the lowest of fences also. That said, he is doing great, I let him out for a while in the morning and each evening, whilst keeping a close eye on what hes up to. He loves it, its good as now I know all his little hiding places too.

Thinking about it more, its pretty difficult for a long haired white and ginger cat to hide anywhere unseen. As for being scary, I swear, instead of flying off birds in his vicinity point and laugh at the poor thing! Hes about as scary as a mayfly :-)

thats a cute name man! i guess in japan it would seem odd then right? At first i thought you named it after a forum member. lol. I read somewhere on these here forums that the cats mouth is the most bacteria infested thing on a cats body. This true? if so im never gonna go near one again.

Oh and this question has been playing on me mind for a long time, why do dogs lift there leg up to pee yet a cat jus sits there? Whats the deal wit that?

Marcus me thinks you should have yah cat as yah avatar, put that bunny to rest, its like a sequel old now!

marcus
16-12-2005, 10:54 AM
Id say the mouth is the most infested part of most animals bodies, probably humans included :) Cats in particular, because some (not all) do things like go out mousing, and eating all sorts of gross things like that. Cats on the whole are really clean animals, Neko does this thing whereby he sits there licking my hand for ages, its meant to be a sign of affection but I always wash my hands afterwards just in case.

Darwock

Yeah when a cat licks you it's 'grooming' you (in the old sense, not the paedophile sense).. the younger of my two cats would clean the older one's fur when they were by the fire.. so cute

It's bloody painful when they do it to you though - their tongues are obviously designed to clean crap out of fur, so it's like a comb/sandpaper texture, and they always focus on one spot so it starts to really hurt after a while! I always figured it'd be mean to stop them though.

http://ntsc-uk.domino.org/images/smilie/biggrin.gif they do have a distinctive smell but i don't find it offensive... they're a little bit musky, the boys do tend to stink though, my girls are lovely. the albino one is just so utterly harmless, has the sweetest nature and is generally amusing. the polecat/racoon one is a little bit nastier though (with me anyway) she just loves to play and on occasion will nip you accidentally (which does hurt).

Do ferrets make for good domestic pets? Where do you keep them etc? sleep 20+ hours a day, can be litter trained, will happily scamper about the house getting themselves into trouble... piece of piss to keep really, you just have to make sure that there's no holes they can disappear into at ferret height. also leaving glasses of drink around is a general no-no unless you don't mind clearing it up, they're really adventurous little bastards but seem to get tired really easy. we let them out in the morning first thing and then for a few hours in the evening if they're up for it, cage is left open for them to grab food/drink or even sleep. they'll either put themselves to bed or sleep in one of the drawers we've kitted out for them. we have a cage for them in a little bit set back on the landing upstairs; has a litter tray, sleep box filled with fleece, food/water, a tube to upper levels and a hammock, they love the hammock. http://ntsc-uk.domino.org/images/smilie/happy.gif

Naming a cat is really hard... originally I was gona call mine Oscar, then Harvey, but took an instant liking to Neko after another forum member (Razz) suggested it as its Japanese for 'cat', kinda fitting :)

Erm.... how about Ashley (its a girl, and 'ash-like') or Smudge?

Actually, I just found this, lots of names here, thats where I got Smudge from - http://www.kitten-names.com/database.asp?Category1=1

FAO Keith - as mentioned, heres Neko and his weepy eyes as a kitten - its a trait of Persians unfortunately, and the only problem Ive ever had with him has concerned his eye when he caught an infection. To clean, gently use a fingernail if the area is hard/scabby, it should come off in one go. If not, damp cotton buds should help remove the muck :)

Honestly Marcus, I can't believe how good she's being. http://ntsc-uk.domino.org/images/smilie/happy.gif

I was sure that after being taken away from her mother, her brother and her sisters, she'd be miserable; but after the journey home (during which, I felt horrible :( ), she cried for a little while, then started purring really, really loudly. And since then she's spent all her time playing, sleeping, eating, and purring. :)

She's not really been left alone properly yet (we've both had time off to let her get settled in), except for an hour here and there, but she doesn't seem too bothered when she is. And she quite often just wanders off for a sleep during the day anyway.

Oh, and we had a look around, and she's a Himalayan, not a Van. Apparently Vans have black or orange eyes, and Himalayans have blue ones, like Aeris. (Although, my camera doesn't really show them off! http://ntsc-uk.domino.org/images/smilie/sad.gif)

Thanks very much for the links; I'll be sure to have a looksie at them later on. She's the sweetest little thing ever.

Clarence is a lazy cat, he rarely goes out and doesn't play much. His one vice though is ear plugs (http://static.flickr.com/48/116707061_bf394ae097_o.jpg), he loves playing with them and if you throw one over his head he'll jump at it endlessly. Sometimes though I think this is as much exercise for me as for him, I end up running around getting it back to throw again :D

Darwock
23-03-2006, 10:41 AM
How on earth did you discover that he loves ear plugs? Does he eat them?

I had a cat who ate peas and (occasionally) crisps, that was pretty weird.

Just noticed this thread for the first time so I thought I'd bung up pics of our three cats: Smudge (9), Shadow and Star (both nearly 3).

Smudge was a stray from birth and we took her in when she was nearly a year old. She used to be super fit and chase squirrels all the time, but now she's fat and lazy, she took to domesticated life too well :)

Unfortunately Shadow and Star are both fit, quick and active... unfortunate because that means they delight in bringing assorted live wildlife into our house and leaving it for us to catch!

Alastair
23-03-2006, 11:05 AM
Because he always went out of his way to nick them off the bedside table! It's got to the point where we practically buy them for him as toys now!

He only tries to eat them if he gets too excited. Have lost a good few so he may have managed it too.

Both my cats will eat anything really, raisins, peas, crisps, bread, yoghurt, cakes. My mums cat famously ate curry a few times too :D

Star looks gorgeous, Shadow looks like a killer :ph34r:The problem with Shadow is that quite often he forgets the killer part :) He's superb at catching stuff: mice, huge ****ing rats, birds, etc., but half the time he brings them in the house when they're alive, puts them down, and sods off back out the cat flap!

He can't quite beat Smudge's best effort though, who in her younger days decided to bring in a mouse and drop it in the middle of the living room during the Euro 2000 final! Then she justs sits there watching as we're scambling around trying to catch it :)

Darwock
23-03-2006, 11:24 AM
I love that ^^

It shows they're totally aware that they're part of the family, and they're trying to help you improve your hunting skills. Can imagine the cat thinking 'f*&ks sake, I can't make it any easier for you - get a grip" lol

EJG1980
23-03-2006, 11:28 AM
I reckon that's why he kept on bringing them in

"Damn it, these guys are still too slow at catching those mice! Ah well, I'll go get another one for 'em!" :)

They don't do it too much over the colder months, but the nearer we get to summer... :hmm:

yeah she is microchipped and wears a collar, if a vet or police or cat and dog shelter picked her up they would have scanned her on arrival apparently, but a local woman found her and put a poster in her window.

EJG1980
31-03-2006, 02:19 PM
All three of our cats are chipped, but none of 'em wear a collar. Smudge (our oldest 9 year old cat) is really lazy now and doesn't venture outside our garden, so she doesn't really need one.

Star and Shadow are always out and about, but no matter what kind of collar we give them they lose it! Whenever we put them on, they go out, and the next time we see them inside the collar is gone :)

Luckily nothing has happened to either of 'em so far... apart from when Star went missing for two days and came back pregnant!

She was only just under a year old at the time so some randy local tom must have fancied a bit of jailbait :) Of course, it happend about a week before she was due to see the vet to stop such things happening!

Darwock
31-03-2006, 02:49 PM
Did her personality change after the pregnancy? We had a young cat who was really hyper-active and energetic, after her pregnancy and taking care of her litter (until they went to new homes) she became like this total 'mother' cat, she would never go outside and was always really gentle etc.. I don't recall her claws even coming out once in about ten years!

EJG1980
31-03-2006, 02:55 PM
Unfortunately the pregnancy didn't go too well, and see had about six kittens all of which were premature. We thought one of them was going to make it, as it was able to survive the night, but that one died the next day too :( Probably due to the fact that she was so young.

So she never got a chance to do the mothering part of things (I think she knew that the kittens had no chance as she didn't want to go near even the one that survived the night).

Personality wise, she's still pretty much the same now as she was before and after the birth, very active and running around alot, occasionally beating up her brother Shadow :) It's a shame we never got the chance to see if bringing up the kittens would have changed her at all.

Cheers guys. Am actually quite taken aback by just how gutted i actually am. It's hard cos you can't explain it to them, and they have all their trust in you.
On a lighter note, Neko's absolutely gorgeous! Made me smile, takes more time on his hair than i do :)

Here is my crazy moggy doing what moggies do best - sleep. Of course when she's not sleeping she's out catching birds. Lots of birds. LOTS. It's driving me flipping insane so I am resorting to this - The Cat Bib (http://www.catgoods.com/product.html) At first I laughed but now it seems like a good idea?!

I've tried the collar and bell thing, it doesnt seem to hinder her predatory needs, and I wouldn't mind so much if she caught the odd one now and then because thats what cats do isn't it?? But she's going overboard and must be stopped. I don't really want to keep her inside because she loves going out and gets bored, so anyone got any better ideas for stopping a cat catching a million birds a day?

I dont think theres much more you can do than the bell collar really, its just doing what cats do naturally.

Mine is the complete opposite - its two years old and Im yet to see him do a real jump, its like he has no confidence whatsoever in his cat-like abilities (which I wonder if he has at all now..).

The other day I was watching him, a moth was at the window which he wanted to get to, to do that he needed to jump from a table onto the windowledge (a couple of feet tops), he sat there for about 3-4 minutes trying to decide if he could make it or not before giving up and walking off.

Its good in a way though, as I know he never strays far (as he cant!).

Well consider yourself lucky Marcus, my cat doesn't sit still, she's 3 years old now and still acts like a kitten - full of energy and most of it is spent running away from me! and by the way that 'evil' picture of Neko is ridiculously cute!

Some cats will chase anything, mine tends to think about chasing it so long that whatever he was after has long gone by the time he decides. That said, when he does run, hes really fast. But so far as his 'cat abilities' go, hes definetely more apprentice than journeyman, he could do with a bit of levelling up.

I imagine that bib thing works more out of instilling a sense of deep embarrasment in the unfortunate cat that has to wear it. They probably try not to go out as much.

Are Persians known for their hunting/acrobatic skills? They just don't give the impression that they were designed to do that.. all that hair must surely be a hindrance!
