    retro japan prices

what are retro prices like in japan, anyone know? half of what we pay here at places like genki etc or what?

Im asking because a workmate of mine is going to japan in a couple of weeks and she says I can give her a wishlist and some money and she'll do her best..

Im thinking about asking her to look for some md rares I still havent got like panorama cotton, ps1, battle mania 1-2, bare knuckle 3 and maybe some others and things, so... you guys think she can save me a buck?

shes not really a gamer / knowledgeable about prices so I guess she'll pretty much walk into the first stores she sees, and I think shes going to tokyo if that helps

edit: now that I think of it, will she find any retro stores easily at all..?

    any info appreciated
    thanks,

Yeah they are cheaper than in the UK but not as cheap as you are thinking probably. You see, people who live here have to really look for the great deals so I doubt your friend will have much luck getting stuff super cheap. Anyway, for the MD stuff forget about any dream prices. MD stuff in Japan now is very expensive. Panorama Cotton can go from 10'000 yen to 20'000 yen. Battle Mania 1 & 2 got for about 10'000 yen up as well. I recently sent a massive MD fan from these boards a load of recent pictures of MD stuff. He can tell you the prices are mad ! 6800 yen for MoonWalker !?!

PS: Forget about finding any super cool deals in Akihabara or any place that westerns are bound to go to because the Japanese know they can charge more in places like that and get away with it.

OK, your best bet is to not really bother in Akihabara but if that's your only option then try the back street shops before the main street ones. true, places like Trader 2 (Behind Club Sega) , Super Potato and even Liberty have the rare stuff, they also have high prices. I get all of my games from small indi shops, Video Rental shops such as Geo or Tsutaya and used outlets such as Hard Off or Manga Soko. The only stuff I've ever bought in Akihabara were the really rare titles, half of which I've spotted in the above shops over time for less money.

Indeed..scary piccies. 11,340 yen for a cart only Rockman, 5,600 for a cart only Kageki..WTF!

@Kallbrand - at the prices Yakumo has shown me you'd save money using yahoo (even with deputy fees), ebay, anywhere else tbh. Especially for the 5 you list as they are not rare at all. (I have a spare ps1 if you're interested..although it might take a day to find it)

Yakumo, what's Hard Off like for more adult titles?

I have the chance of going to Tokyo first before heading off to the in laws and was going to get some chioce UMD's in Aki then get my 'normal' retro/secondhand stuff at our local HO.

Hmm, Hard Off has loads of porn DVDs but not so much for console games. They do have adult PC games though.
