    Life on Mars

I searched for a thread for this great show but it appears that there isn't one! So I thought I'd better start this thread as the second and final (!) series is due to start sometime this year - and the sooner the better I say!

a bit of series 2 info with no spoilers

C'mon, hurry up BBC, I wanna see what happens!

Sorry bit off topic, but when Life on Mars was advertised on BBC a while back. What was the background music used?

Don't know, I watched first two episodes of series one and didn't enjoy it, surprised it was so popular and got a second series tbh.

70's cars ftw though can't beat a brown Cortina.

I was gripped to this show when it was on. I thought the concept was really interesting. Hopefully they'll be able to keep the idea going for a second series without running it dry.

This show was a massive suprise to me and I can't wait to see if Sam Tyler's next leap will be the leap home

Most crushing bit is they do loads of the exterior filming outside my work. Saw stuff being filmed for sodding Cutting It but not this!!

Tis the last episode tonight, given the lack of posts in this thread I guess the series hasn't been hugely popular, which is a shame as it's well written giving an interesting take on policing in the 70s.

Tonight we're suppose to find out what the real deal with Tyler is, the Beeb filmed two endings to keep people guessing - 9pm BBC1

You & me both absolutley cracking finale.

TBH I had lost interest during this series but wanted to see how it finished & I'm SO glad I did.
Hope the rumoured spin off does happen, would like to see what they do with it.

I've loved every minute of this program. Theres only been 2 progs thats kept me gripped to my telly over the last few yrs. Life On Mars was 1 & Murphy's Law was the other.
I have to admit that when the ads for the 1st series went out I wasnt too impressed but I'm glad that I sat down & watched it rather than assumed it was going to be ****e. Series 1 was great & series 2 was just as good. Gene Hunt is the new Homer Simpson!!

I personnaly thought it was going to end 1 of 3 ways.
                        Either:
                        1. He would come back but end up somehow bumping into Gene Hunt 30 odd yrs older on a zimmer but with the same attitudes as ever,
                        2. He'd come back & see all his 70's work collegues around him as other people like in The Wizard Of Oz,
                        3. He would die & remain in the past solving crime with Gene & his crew.

I'm glad it ended the way it did. When I saw him on that rooftop at the end I really hoped that he'd jump & that it wouldnt end with him just having to get back to normality in the 2000's.

                        He made a good choice.

And theres even a teeny tiny weeny possibility of the show coming back at some point, but without the coma story obviously (which wasnt the reason I watched it anyway) but just as a 70's style cop show.

It was Amazing, i wanted to cry whilst being oddly elated. Best. Ending. EVER!

I'm so glad test girl was in it but, I would have liked a little more sci fi in the conclusion, like Sam actually mentally travelling back in time. Which, given the Maya (there still feels like a plot hole there) and Casino Guy storylines, I suppose there is.

                          Gene Hunt rules.

Agree that this was some classic television. Loved it.

It's all in his head though - and if you want to go the time travel route, the Maya storyline was sorted in the first episode of the first series - rather than send the bloke to the mental hospital, Sam destroyed the psychiatric report which meant he went to jail for life and so couldn't get out to kidnap Maya.

It was a good end to the series, I thought it might end with us finding out he really was in 1973, and the other part was the unreality. When he woke out of the coma I was quite disappointed, but the writers were smart enough not to end it on that note.

So yeah, really enjoyed the series, good to see them not to try and drag it out further ( although I guess that the option is there again given he's back in a coma ).
