Sonic and Knuckles lockon and different regions

I've got JPN Sonic 1 and 2, haven't got around to picking up 3 yet, or Sonic & Knuckles.

Because the first 2 games I have are JPN, I'd prefer to get 3 and Knuckles as JPN carts also. BUT, I hardly ever see them for sale on eBay unless they're PAL or USA.

I'm sure I read that Sonic 3 has territory lockout on it, I'm just wondering if Sonic and Knuckles has, and if you can mix regions of Sonic 2 and 3 that you lockon to it?

I can't help with the lock-on modes, but Sonic & Knuckles itself is region free.

If im not mistaken, in my early days of retro gaming, im pretty sure I had a US Sonic 3 attached to a PAL S&K.
The game ran fine IIRC and so did the Save File...

Yes, you can run any region sonic 1,2,3 on a S&K cart.
